For Engineering A-Level Maths is essential, alongside a science (chemistry, physics, biology, sometimes computer science). Further Maths is often recommended. This does depend on the type of engineering you’d like to go into, as there are many e.g. Aerospace, Civil, Chemical, Electrical, and Mechanical. A-Level Physics is the optimal science to choose because it relates to all types of engineering, and many engineering degrees contain lots of physics. Engineering degrees often require applicants to take the ESAT admissions test which contains Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

For architecture you do not have to take physics, but some universities like Bath and Cambridge strongly recommend you take Maths, Physics, and Art. Most UK universities focus more on the art side of things, and require a portfolio. For more STEM focused architecture degrees, which don’t require a portfolio, Maths and/or Physics is usually a requirement (e.g. Bath). There isn’t a set admissions test for architecture, however Cambridge has their own art-based one.

To summarise no you don’t have to take A-Level Physics to do engineering or architecture. However, you would likely be at a disadvantage without it because universities typically recommend you study it, and because the degree will contain physics.

Engineering yes, generally.

Architecture no, in most cases not.
