Second degree STEM funding

Hello,
I am looking at options for studying a second degree, part time, under the STEM elq exceptions. Could you please clarify if the following option is an exception, and I would (likely) be able to get tuition and maintenance loans?

Institution: University of Worcester
Course: Computing BSc
Mode: Part time

Thank you

Hi Leah,

The course begins this September, 2025.
Institution: University of Worcester
Course: Computing BSc
Mode: Part time

My SFE account currently says I have already used all my available years funding for undergraduate, but I'm led to believe that I could still apply for finance if this course is counted as an exception? I have a BA and will soon have an MA as well.

Thank you

Hi Meg,

For the part time 3 year option this would be classed as an exception course. Thanks, Jason

Thanks Jason, though it's not 3 years, it's 4-6 years part time as the full time course is 3 years. I assume that's still okay?
Do you know when part time funding applications open?

Hi Meg,

Do you have the course code?

Part time applications for 25/26 are due to open in May, we don't have the exact date yet. Keep checking our website/social media channels for further updates.

Thanks,
Claire

Hi there. The university have not added this course to out database for 25/26.

Although, they did add it to 24/25 and it would be classed as an exception, but it's not on out system for 25/26.

You may want to double check this with the university, they will also be able to tell you if the course is an exception course or not. Thanks, Leah.

Hi Leah,
Thanks for this info - if it's not in your database, would that mean I wouldn't be able to get funding for it?
Thanks

Hi there, as long as the university update their database and this show when you make your application then we would look to fund this course. But this will require for the university to update the course information. Thanks, Stephen.

Hi Stephen,

I'm currently talking to the university about the course to see if they can update the database. In the meantime, are you able to tell me if their other computing degree is in the database as an ELQ exception?

Course: Computer Science (I105)
Institution: University of Worcester
Mode: Part time, September 2025

Thank you

Hi Meg,

There aren't any computing part time courses shown for 25/26 yet on the database for the university. Thanks, Jason

Hi, I'm currently speaking to the university but they're confused as to what database you're looking at and what needs updating. As far as they're aware, Computing part time is present in their student finance database and they don't know of any other databases that the university has access to. Are you able to clarify for me what needs updating so that I can help them get it sorted?

The course I'm referring to is BSc Computing, University of Worcester, G400, part time starting this September.

Thanks very much

Hi there. The database in question is the course management database, this is where universities provide course information that attract Student Finance support. The course code: BSc Computing, University of Worcester, G400, is a Full Time option only. There is a part time course, however this is a 3 year course with a SLC course code of 878653, you can ask the university to confirm if this course is correct as this is the only undergraduate part time course they are offering. Thanks, Stephen.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for this information. The university have said it's listed as three years as that's the full time equivalent but is indeed a part time course that can be studied over 4-6 years. So if I applied for Computing (SLC code 878653) part time, would that attract the funding for the 4-6 years I need it for, based on number of credits studied per year? Thanks so much for all your help.

Hi again, yeah, courses on the database usually show under their full time equivalent (so this course would be for 4-6 years under the part time equivalent). The course: Computing (SLC code 878653) would be classed as an exemption course. Thanks, Stephen.

Hi again, thanks for answering all my questions! One more - the sfe application asks for course length. Is this 3 years because that's how it's listed, or is it 4 years because that's how long I intend to study it for? Thanks

Hi there. This will go from the length of the course as its listed so it would be 3 years. Thanks again, David
