GCSE help (year 10)

Hey! I was wondering if anyone had some advice - I'd really appreciate it.

Over the past few months, I’ve really struggled to keep up with revision - not because I didn’t care, but because I got overwhelmed and didn’t know where to start. I think I let the pressure and the fear of falling behind stop me from even beginning, and now I’ve realised how much time has passed. I just really want some help with how to manage everything without burning out, and how to revise in a way that works, as I've mainly been spending time switching between physical and digital flashcards, mindmaps etc. and I can't find the best way to revise.

I want to catch up, stay focused, and make the most of the time I have left before my exams in June (mocks). I’m aiming for Grade 9s, so the pressure feels even heavier, especially in the harder subjects like History, Geography, and English.

I’ve started trying to plan things out properly now, but if anyone has any tips on:
- How to catch up when you’re this behind
- How to structure revision when you’ve got loads of content
- Effective revision methods
- Or just how you stayed motivated and consistent
... please share! I've got 7-8 months of content to catch up on :frown:

Here are my subjects by the way:
- Edexcel Maths Higher
- AQA Level 2 Further Maths
- AQA English Literature
- AQA English Language
- AQA Triple Sciences - Bio, Chem, Phys
- AQA Geography
- AQA History (so far Conflict and Tension - The Interwar Years - 1918-39 and America - Opportunity and Inequality - 1920-73)
- AQA Short Course RS (so far Islam and Christianity)
- Edexcel Spanish Higher - new exam 2026

THANKS FOR READING

My advice would just be to start as soon as you can! Maybe print off a topic list for each subject and RAG rate it so you know what to focus on. Having a timetable might help, one or two subjects per day for half an hour each would be a great amount to be able to do consistently if youre up to it- as opposed to doing like 4 hours one day then nothing the next day! I recommend using blurting, Seneca, quizzes like kahoot or blooket, exam style questions for revision. Happy to answer questions, i did these subjects other than geography and re at gcse and would be happy to give tips for any of the subjects i did 🙂

Hi, I’m in year 10 too currently, and am also aiming for all grade 9s. If I’m being honest, damn I admire your determination in aiming for grade 9s, as this is something not a lot of students have- so you should be proud of yourself about this! In terms of catching up with content and trying to revising everything- it will not work if you try to cram everything at once obvi, so I’d recommend making a plan/ routine, which consists of studying a few topics in depth each day, and the most important bit is to test your knowledge and fill in any gaps as much as possible. I would personally say doing a bit everyday, even if it’s just an hour, goes a long way. Main parts are to focus on your weaker topics and do active recall as much as possible, since it will be useful in the long run. In terms of subject specific advice, maths is one of those subjects where you honestly just have to practice until you get nothing wrong (sounds overwhelming but trust it’s not that bad- I also take further maths and the best thing I found was to practice just 10 mins a day on a topic I’m not sure about), I’d also recommend practising the harder more grade 8/9 questions since this allows you to be more confident when encountering these questions. Any essay based subjects, like English, biology, chem, physics,RE, history, geography, or even languages, I’d highly recommend practising one essay question at home, and handing it to your teacher for personalised feedback- omg I literally did this and went from a grade 4 to a grade 7 in english, it's like magic 🤩! For sciences, I’d recommend going through the content (watch free science lessons and cognitive- life saver!) and learning the required practicals off by heart, and not just focusing on what, but also why certain things are done. For languages, I’d suggest learning some grade 9 phrases in mind, so if there’s like a surprise question in a speaking test, or a writing exam, you can use these, which will impress your teacher and hopefully level up your grade! Finally, I’d finish off by saying some (in my opinion) underrated revision/ active recall tips are: blurting (when you get a piece of paper, write whatever you can remember in 10 mins, and use a different colour pen to go through any bits you missed in the topic you’re studying), past paper exam questions- honestly the more you practice and mark effectively, the better your understanding will be about what the examiner wants you to say, as well as developing certain skills for essays. Last but not least, plssss don’t stress too much, in the position you’re in it’s completely normal to stress out, and to anyone else reading this and feeling stressed- it’s completely normal to feel stress during exams, but obvi reward yourself for sitting for 30 mins as revising, because you deserve it and good luck with your revision- hope this has at least somewhat helped!! Any questions feel free to ask!

For spanish, try looking on Quizlet (or whatever flashcard app quizlet is one of the most popular ones tho so u have more chances to find what u want) to see any sets people made on the vocab you have! My teacher did this for us and it saved me a lot of time

For triple sciences, see if you can get your hands on the purple CGP book, I really liked it and the notes were pretty concise, it also offers practice questions + answers too. Maybe you can try writing down everything you know about a topic/subject then refer back to it, check out everything you missed. Try do a lot of past papers!
