Is math important at A Levels for business?

I've never been good at math but I want to do business administration or something to do with marketing at university level. I took core math during my IGCSEs. Is math important as an a level subject or could I not take it and still have a good chance of doing something in business? And if so what possible combinations at a levels could I take for a good chance of getting into uni?

If you want to do marketing or business administration you don't need maths a level as they accept any subjects (just pick a mix of social sciences and humanities). However certain courses at prestigious universities will need a 6 or higher for more quantitative courses i.e. management at SOAS.

Unis will clearly state on the relevant course page if A level Maths is required, or any specific GCSE Maths requirement.

You need to be aware that both these degree subject use Maths and Stats - and so do associated jobs.
If you really don't enjoy Maths then you might need to reconsider these choices.

Hi,

This depends on what university you decide to apply to. Some universities will require a Maths A Level for their Business programmes whilst others won’t. Most universities, however, don’t require an A Level in Maths but will require a GCSE minimum grade 6 in both English and Maths. SOAS, for example, states that the A Level requirements for their Management programme is ABB but :

Subject required: Applicants without A level Maths (or equivalent) must have a minimum of grade B in GCSE Maths (or grade 6 in the new structure)

If you have particular universities in mind, I suggest having a look at their entry requirements page to see whether a Maths A Level is a necessary requirement, however, based on a general search, most of them do not require it (its just a bonus). I also suggest looking at the content and topics that will be covered during your degree programme as some universities may focus more towards the mathematical side of business and this may not appeal to you. You may find that some universities are more Maths heavy than others so doing some research is a good starting point in making a decision.

Best of luck!
