What course is better to study?
Clinical science at Bradford or biomedical science at Brighton if one wants to study medicine afterwards?
Relying on GEM is a massive risk with any degree

Hey @Tofar how are you? 🤗

It's great to hear you're considering Bradford! If you have any specific questions about our Clinical Sciences course then feel free to get in touch and I'll pass over your enquiries to the course leader who can help 🙂

I'd also recommend booking onto open days at both uni's if you can so you can speak to the academics who'd be teaching you and find out where graduates have gone on to study, chat to current students about their experiences of the course and their career aspirations, take tours of the facilities you'd be studying in and check out the support services, student life etc. If you can't make an open day, I'd recommend taking a look on the university websites for virtual tours, and also look at the social media channels and website for student blogs on that subject and any student experience videos for a bit of an insight too.

Let me know if I can be of any more help and I'll do my best!

Hi @Tofar

We're pleased you're considering the University of Brighton as one of your options 😊

If you choose to study with us you'll benefit from the guaranteed interview scheme with the Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS)

Whilst studying our Biomedical Science BSc (Hons) is Accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) and the Royal Society of Biology (RSB).

You'll have access to specialist facilities such as atomic force microscopes, microbiology lab, molecular biology lab, and genomics/ proteomics facility for analysis of cell genes and proteins.

You'll learn with internationally recognised researchers who are part of the research Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Devices and Centre for Lifelong Health.

I'd recommend attending an open day at your university choices to get a feel for the campus and facilities to see which you prefer. You'll also then get the opportunity to speak to lecturers and students from the course.

I hope this is helpful!

Best of luck with your applications.

Hello there, Thank you for the reply.

For the guaranteed scheme to medicine, I saw on the requirements that A levels are being checked. So I got ABC in A levels with A in chemistry, B in biology and C in maths. I was told I may not be able to transfer with these grades. Could you help me elaborate on that please?

Hi @Tofar

Not a problem 😊

I'm sorry, it would be correct that you aren't eligible for the guaranteed interview scheme with your current A-Level grades.

The two routes for the guaranteed interview scheme through Biomedical Science BSc (Hons) for 2026 entry are:

Entry requirements (after year 1)

GCSE grade B or equivalent in maths and English

If English is not your first language, an overall IELTS score of 7.0 with at least 7.0 in all sections

AAA at A-level, all obtained in one sitting (both chemistry and biology need to be passed at A-level with grade A; neither General Studies nor Critical Thinking are acceptable)

If you took the International Baccalaureate, 36 overall with grade 6 in Higher level chemistry and biology

Excellent term 1 class attendance record

A 70% average for term 1 modules

Entry requirements (after the final year)

GCSE grade B or equivalent in maths and English

BBB at A-level, all obtained in one sitting (both chemistry and biology need to be passed at A-level with grade B; General Studies and Critical Thinking are not acceptable)

If English is not your first language, an overall IELTS score of 7.0 with at least 7.0 in all sections

At least an upper second class degree

A 70% average for year 2 modules

You also need to:

take the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) in your year of application

make a UCAS application to BSMS by 15 October in your year of application

have an excellent record of class attendance (80%) and assignment submission by deadline (if applying after final year).

Usually for the graduate entry you would also need BBB at A-Level including both Biology and Chemistry. However, as you C is in Maths I would recommend contacting our Medicine admissions officer directly to see if there is any flexibility with this i.e. would they allow you to resit the Maths and then apply for Medicine? The Medicine admissions officer can be contacted on: [email protected]

I hope this is helpful 😊
