3 ADVH + FA or 2 ADVH + 1/2 H + FA

I'm thinking about my subjects for S6.

I could do:

1. ADVH English, History, and Business Management with a Foundation Apprenticeship.

2. ADVH English and History or Business Management, with a Foundation Apprenticeship and Higher Geography and/or Philosophy.

Do you think it would be more beneficial to have a third advanced higher than to have one/two additional highers?

Hello Jasmine (:
It sounds like you have some great options to choose from! Both sets of subjects offer a good variety, which is great!

it really depends on your future goals on what would be more beneficial. If you’re still figuring it out, having a broader range with the additional Higher could give you more flexibility. That said, if you have a clearer idea of where you’re heading or prefer to specialize, focusing on 3 Advanced Highers might be the way to go. Just keep in mind, 3 Advanced Highers is a lot of work, so you’ll want to make sure you’re comfortable with that level of commitment.

Ultimately, it’s all about balancing workload with what best aligns with your interests and future plans. Whatever you decide, best of luck!

I’m not too sure what FA is but regards to subject choices most unis don’t care about advanced highers any more. One uni even told my friend they weren’t even acknowledging her ADV Higher English even though it was a journalism course ( I think this is very rare though). I would do what you think you would score best in as any route besides uni must likely won’t care that much as long as you have the subjects they want. Then university wise they will give you an offer on what you are doing i.e one person may get a condition for two A’s at higher but someone else two AB’s at ADV higher.
Ultimately what Im trying to say is look at the conditions of what ever you want to do after school and then consider what you like and what you are good at and go off that 🙂
Good luck!

Ah, I think we live in the same county, haha. If you don't mind me asking, what FA are you thinking of doing? (I'm doing one next year, though I doubt it's the same one as you considering the difference in subjects we take.)

I'd say it depends on how you feel about the workload of 3AHs. It would be a lot of work but, as Emily has said, if you think that specialisation would beneficial for what you want to do in the future then 3AHs may be better. You might also want to see how you feel next year doing your Highers before deciding anything for sure - I know my expected S6 choices have changed from what I thought I'd do in the beginning of the year compared to what I actually chose.

To be honest, if you get good Higher grades in S5 then I doubt it will matter much (unless you're going into a particularly competitive degree of university though). Just choose the one that you think has the most fitting workload and will work best for what you want to do when you leave school.
