Supercurriculars for English lit?

Hey, I’ve recently decided to do an undergrad in English lit (and history if possible, like Southampton offers an English + history undergrad) and do a post grad in law instead of a bachelors in law. I do maths, English lit, history and an EPQ and am predicted B, A*, A* A*. I have next to no extracurricular because I’ve struggled with depression. I did silver dofe, have spent 3 years volunteering to teach children, done some media work, written in a school newspaper, some law virtual work experience and am doing some oxbridge essay competitions and taster sessions from the likes of KCL. What other supercurriculars or extracurriculars should i pursue to stand out on an application at Cambridge? For English lit, history, or law. Might decide to go back to do a bachelors in law. I want to apply to Cambridge, kcl, ucl, Southampton, bath and a safety university like birkbeck. I live in London and go to a state catholic school.

I mean, you have done a good amount already. I'm also interested in studying English lit (maybe with history/classics), so I have some more ideas for additional things you could do.

Additionally, though, you could email local newspapers, bookshops, and publishing houses asking for work experience. You could also email local museums or charity shops that primarily sell books and ask to volunteer.

If you can apply to more writing/essay competitions, then that's a good idea. I'd enter anything that you come across that sounds interesting to yourself, regardless of the prestige or popularity.

You could try sending pitches to (online) magazines or newspapers. There's also The Young Reporter Scheme ( https://www.youngreporter.co.uk/ ) that you could ask your school if you can participate in.

I hope this helps, and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask me. 😊

You really don’t need ‘AS’ much as people say regarding extra curriculars- they’re merely methods of expressing an interest in your chosen field( perhaps more significant at undergrad level in US).

I couldn’t speak for English Lit/ History, but if you return to an aspiration for BA in law, I’d introduce some super- curriculars, via unique books, articles, seminars, lectures, podcasts, and critically analyse them+ express why/ how they interested you in certain areas- what actions they led you to take- you’ve more than covered extras.
