Being a millionaire

If I move to Canada with a medical degree, do you think I could become a millionaire, I really do not want to move to the US, not during this time
If you are pre-GCSE it’s a bit early to be thinking about this tbh. You may not even get onto a med degree.

With regards to the USA, there will be another administration in place by then.
If your goal is to become a millionaire medicine may not be a pragmatic choice anyway...

The first thing you'd need to check is whether Canada would accept a medical degree that you've obtained outside Canada. (And bear in mind that this may vary from province to province.) You may have to do additional training to qualify to work there, beyond what people with Canadian medical degrees need to do.

You'd need to find out what sort of visa and/or work permit you would require. You would probably need to find an employer prepared to sponsor your visa -- and they may well have to demonstrate that they can't find a Canadian to do the job before they're allowed to do that.

Try Australia, they are always looking for people to move there.

There is a medical radio programme of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's, called "White Coat, Black Art" - it's all about the experience of doctors and patients in Canada.
As far as I understand the matter, the Canadian equivalent of our NHS GP Practices are Family Doctors - essentially, doctors who run their own small businesses, and deal with the rent of the premises, the paperwork, the hiring of any staff, and so on. Doctors on the programme complain of this all the time, and how they are essentially working two jobs: the medical one they trained for, and the running of a small business.

I do not get the impression it is wonderfully lucrative, or very easy - although I recognise I am talking about one type of doctor, and not surgeons, dermatologists, etc.

you could become a millionaire, but emphasis on could.

canada will accept UK medical degrees, but this varies by med school (generally all other than the brand new ones are accepted). you can check WDOMS (world directory of medical schools) for your medical school, and check sponsor notes.

it is not easy to get residency/postgraduate training in canada as an IMG. you need permanent residence status or citizenship to apply for CaRMS, so straight out of med school to canada is basically a no go. on top of that you need to pass NAC and MCCQE part 1, and also compete with canadian grads who are prioritised over you. if you are UK trained then you can just apply for a job and certification, and your job can sponsor you for immigration.

although doctors and many other high earning professionals usually don't have income problems, they can have spending problems (e.g. lifestyle creep, debt problems). so to be a millionaire you have to be money smart even if youre a high earner.
