What extra stuff do i need to take to uni if i’m in a shared bathroom flat?

Flip flops (or crocs)
A dressing gown
A hanging washbag if you like to use a lot of products in the bathroom
A smaller washbag for toothbrush/toothpaste etc if you don’t have a sink in your room

Hi there,

Definitely flip flops and then depending on the storage space in the bathroom, a toiletries box/bag so you can keep all your stuff separate OR perhaps a small stick on shower rack where you can keep the essentials.

If you do have anything expensive or find that you think people are using them - don't be afraid to just keep everything in your room aswell - especially towels if you think someone may borrow it!

Hope this helps

Hey,

As mentioned above, I'd recommend a large waterproof washbag to hold all your toiletries; it's much easier to carry in and out than a bunch of bottles of shampoo/shower gel on their own. Also make sure you have one or two spare towels - although as Amber pointed out, towels may be best kept in your own room to ensure none of your flatmates accidentally use them.

Best of luck at university!

Hi there,

There are some really great suggestions already but I'll just echo the main important items.

I'd definitely recommend bringing a storage box or organiser for your bathroom items - especially as you're not likely to want to leave products out in the bathroom. University rooms are usually short on space, so having a tidy place to store your toiletries in your room makes life easier.

I'd also recommend a shower caddy or portable toiletry bag for carrying things to and from the bathroom. You might feel more comfortable keeping your all stuff in your room at first, and once you're settled in, you'll figure out what you're okay leaving in the bathroom.

Don't forget a pair of flip-flops or sliders for the bathroom (and they'll come in handy in the kitchen too).

Even if it's cleaned regularly, it's worth having some basic cleaning supplies like shower spray, bleach, or toilet cleaner to freshen things up in between.

You'll figure out what's useful as you go - no need to stress about having absolutely everything from day one.

Hope this is helpful and best of luck with your studies 😊

Best wishes,
^ Hannah

Hi!

I would echo what the others have said on here really, the main things I would bring are flip flops or sliders of some kind just because you probably won't want to be walking around bare foot and some kind of storage box to bring your things back and forth from the bathroom!

It also might be quite helpful to have a small washing bag that you can put in your box that you bring to the shower with you just so you can put some of your dirty washing in to take back to your room with you to then put in your washing basket. I know it sounds like a bit of a faff but it means you won't drop any of your dirty washing on the floor on the way back to your room.

Things like toothpaste may be something you keep in the bathroom, or just bring it and your toothbrush in with you when you brush your teeth. Just see how you feel with your flatmates and then decide where you want to keep things like this!
You might end up sharing things like this but bring your own at first and then you can work it out. The same goes for things like toilet roll and cleaning products.

This definitely isn't a necessity, but one of my friends had a towelling dressing gown that she used to wear to the bathroom and back from it so she didn't have to have her dirty washing in the bathroom. It's a good idea but a towel works just as well for this.

It may also be a good idea to have hooks for over the door if your halls does not provide these, but this is something to look into when you get there and have lived there for a little bit so you can see if you need them!

I hope some of this helps,

Those will usually be provided by the university/halls. The exception would be if you’re in a shared house type situation where they wouldn’t have cleaners in to shared areas.
It’s one of the benefits of not having an en suite - in most cases someone will be in weekly or more to clean the bathrooms and restock loo roll.

Hi Anon,
I would recommend bringing:

Crocs or sliders

A caddy to store all of your toiletries in, so you can carry them to the bathroom easy

If you've got a sink in your room, a pot to hold your toothbrush and toothpaste

Hope this helps!

Hi Anon,
It depends, sometimes if you have your shared bathroom cleaned the university will provide toilet roll. However, you might still have to arrange with your flat to buy hand soap, washing up liquid, bin bags ect., so its best to organize this once your arrive. Usually, you just take it in turns to buy these for the flat.
Hope this helps!
