Other dependents in family

We are supporting our child’s SFE application. Their younger sibling will be taking a gap year in 2025/26 before starting uni in September 2026. They will be 18-19 years old and still living at home, doing some travelling in their gap year and working part time in between. How do we declare this when completing the application?

Hi there. If the child dependant is 18 or over and not in full time education, we would need to see evidence to confirm they are wholly or mainly financially dependent on you.

This means that without financial support from you, the dependant would be unable to meet their essential needs (food, accommodation etc). If no evidence is provided with the application, we will remove them from the assessment and send a request for this.

You can send a cover letter explaining how the child is dependent on you along with copies of evidence.

The type of evidence will depend on your siltation. Evidence of low/no income (bank statements, payslips etc). Evidence of you transferring money or paying bills on the child’s behalf (banks statements/Western Union evidence showing transfers, mobile phone bill, rent/utility bills).

Thanks, Leah.

They are currently studying for
A levels so the only evidence we currently have is payslips from their part time job. They are living at home with all utilities, mobile phone, food, etc paid for by us.

Hi there,

Then you can provide your bank statements to show you are paying their utilities.

Thanks, Drew
