Tariff points

Hello,

I have currently achieved 30 points on my BTEC Extended Diploma in Art and Design Level 3. I had 18 points last year and 12 points this year on my first assignment. My last assignment is worth 45 points. These points are Btec points. I need 50-58 btec points to get 96 points in tariff points. I am 20 points away from 50. If I get 20 points will that be equivalent to 96 tariff points?
What is the highest estimate that someone could achieve from an assignment worth 45 points and holds 30 points already?
Will my conditional offer change to a full offer once I achieve this or will I need to contact the uni myself to show them?

You say you are doing a "BTEC Extended Diploma in Art and Design Level 3" and mention "Btec points" throughout, but I don't believe that is the case based upon the numbers you have mentioned above.

See here for the Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Art and Design specification (PDF). Page 399 shows that the most BTEC points you can get a whole unit (not just an individual assessment) is 32.

See here for the UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Art & Design specification (PDF). It shows that Unit 13 and Unit 14 (of which you must do one) is worth up to 45 credits. That aligns with your "My last assignment is worth 45 points." comment above.

So, I'm going to assume that you're actually doing the UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design. If I'm wrong, please let me know and ignore everything which follows, which is based on that assumption.

This is how in the UAL specification summarises the structure of both the Diploma and the Extended Diploma:

"Level 3 Diploma in Art & Design
The qualification will be delivered through nine units over a nominal one‑year period"

"Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design
The qualification will be delivered through 13 units over a nominal two‑year period. Units 1–9 are described on the preceding page and Units 10–14 below..

So when you say "I had 18 points last year", it sounds like you earned those via units 1 through 9. Are those UCAS tariff points? How have you calculated that? I ask as the only reference the specification makes to UCAS tariff points is via the tables below, which converts your final grade to UCAS tariff points. Yet you haven't mentioned grades at all.

So it's your final grade which we need to determine. However, according to the specification, that is exclusively based upon the unit you've yet to take. The description of Unit 13 (on page 53) and of Unit 14 (on page 58) - both 45 credits, of which you must take one - both contain the following statement:

"This unit is graded Pass, Merit and Distinction, and determines the final overall grade awarded for the Extended Diploma." (my emphasis)

So everything you've do so far has just been to get you to this point. Your final grade is determined by how you do in the final unit.
