Posts disappearing

Hi

It's getting really tiring now how most of the posts I post on my blog (https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7580656&p=100514228&page=1&viewing_newpost=1) vanish when I post them. I click submit and straight away I'm taken the the top of page 2 or 3 and when I scroll down I see the post hasn't appeared. And yet when I try to post the same post again it tells me it's a duplicate of the one I just posted, i.e. the one that hasn't appeared. And yesterday evening another member was posting on my blog and he said his posts were constantly vanishing too. I was recently told this problem had to do with my blog title (it contained the word death) and so when I changed the title the problem stopped happening for a while but it's back now. And this vanishing occurs on mobile site, desktop and also on the app. In addition, it seems that short, one liner posts appear fine but when I try to post a bigger block of text it vanishes and just takes me to the top of the page.

If this vanishing has to do with my username then please change it, I'm willing to do anything at this point because it's making this site so horrible and unpleasant to use, and so frustrating that when I'm trying to post something it just always disappears. Thanks a lot.

Hi. Thanks again for letting us know. We recently updated our moderation system and your posts are being automatically reported and hidden. I think from looking at the report queue that they have been approved now and should show in your blog. There were a number of posts that look like duplicates so I think the moderators have only approved one of them.

I'll ask our community team to look at the reporting rules to see why your post was flagged. Its not your username that caused them to be reported or the blog title.

We are also looking at changing things so the posts don't disappear without telling you why. The moderation system was updated for compliance reasons but this has caused a very poor user experience in some cases and I'm sorry its been happening to you.

Thanks a lot, but the post they approved 3 hours ago or so (which I saw appear) has vanished again.

Is this why the place has been near unusable the last week with so many posts going into 4-5 hours mod queues or just vanishing? In terns of user experience, yes it's awful.

I've asked out community team to have a look at this. I apologise if the post isn't showing and you expect it to. I think they got in touch on your blog before about the issue with the post and are continuing to tweak things to improve this.

Sorry its been bad for you too. We are looking at making it clear to users when the post has been reported. Our site rules are that posts are reviewed within 24 hours but its usually much quicker. Thinks will likely take longer if posted late at night etc.

Just so I know, where did you ask about this last week that didn't get a reply? Thanks 🙂

I don't feel this is so much posts that actually get reported as things going into the queue for seemingly 0 reason, nothing controversial, no weird keywords etc, if this is going to start happening more and more, surely the moderation times will just get worse?

I suspect that having to regularly wait multiple hours in conversations will lead to people simply not bothering, how long would you put up with it for?

Absolutely, we don't want users to be frustrated with posting because, as you say, they will stop bothering. The community team can see the things that are being reported and are trying to be reactive to adjust the rules to stop things being inappropriately flagged.

Please do keep feeding back here if you think your post shouldn't be moderated because we are looking into it.

I followed the help and support and posted where I thought it said. God knows where that was. And echo striders comments again. I posted yesterday and it was published and then tried to edit a couple of typos but it wouldnt let me save. So deleted that and reposted the (edited) message which simply disappeared into the ether. I presume its being moderated, but not heard anything since (or really care now).

It's still happening and I don't believe my posts should be moderated or flagged, that's another big one vanished just there.

Hi. I've check the post you made and can see why it was flagged. I've got in touch with the community team and they have changed a moderation rule so this post wouldn't be hidden if you made it now. It is still in the report queue the last I checked since the team haven't got to it yet.

We are checking posts as they get reported and trying to balance keeping harmful posts off the site while keeping everything working smoothly for other users. Thank you for feeding back on this post, it does help us adjust the rules.

This is still happening to me which is an utter joke seeing how much spam and known trolls are getting through.
Just to add to this,

a) posts going into pre-moderation will be because they use a word that's in the filter. The filter is quite extensive at the moment but is changed nearly daily to refine it better.

b) there was a recent change to make sure there was a filter that affected all posts on the site, not just OPs. Before that, anything could be posted in lots of threads without any automatic flagging. Which was not good.

c) I have asked before but will make the case again for editing posts to not automatically trigger the filter in particular circumstances.

d) Every year I make the case for the premoderation filter to be changeable depending on forum. There are some words which you would be happy to discuss in TV Shows that you would want to check in News & Current Affairs etc. I have made that case again in recent months and would encourage TSR to seriously consider this as the most ideal solution for user experience and for ease of effective moderation

I know it causes issues with History. For example I posted a post with Hitler in it as I am learning about Hitler in my A-Level History course. This post then got put in an hour's long queue. You might need a moderator just moderating the History exam chats this year.

Or some people in History study help for example.

We're adjusting things to try and minimise impact on users and also catch more of the spam and trolls - unfortunately this will take a bit of time as we get the levels correct!

Posts in study help having to go through approval is painful/really annoying, even if its just a simple edit. I cant imagine what in the posts triggers it?
