Hi, is there anyone studying postgraduate degree in social work please? I have a lot of questions, especially about how possible it is to keep a part time job? Thank you 🙏

Hi @AndySpruce

I've started the Master of Social work course at Kingston University last September, so I'd be happy to answer any question you have.
In regards to working alongside the course, it is definitely possible. Although it may depend on the university, I have classes 2.5 days per week, meaning there is plenty of time to work on days where there are no lectures and/or evenings after classes. If you have a part-time job that is flexible and allows you to work around your course hours, that is great!
However, once placements start, it becomes more difficult as students are on placement full-time (Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm). During placement months, there is the possibility of working weekends, but may be at the risk of feeling overworked (risk of burnout) and not giving yourself enough time to rest in between placement days.

You can always start the year with a part-time job and see how it goes.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions 🙂

Thank you, I have given up on starting the course this year but at least I have a hope it might be possible next year. Good luck with your studies!
