DBS check

I have been made an offer for MSc Physician Associate studies at University of Birmingham but I cannot accept it on UCAS yet since Im still doing my undergraduate degree obviously. One of the requirements is a DBS check which Ive never done before. Is that automatic or will I have to do it myself and if so how? Will I be sent something by the university? Also when do I have to start it because it says I can start right after I accept my offer and an email gives me a link to an admissions portal but I don't have one since I applied through UCAS. What should I do?

Hi @momobobo786

Congratulations on your offer!

For most courses requiring a DBS check, the details are sent by the university once the offer has been accepted. So it is likely that you'll have to accept the offer for the university to send you a follow up email about the DBS check.
From personal experience, the whole process was rather simple once I received my account details from my department, and was still able to start my course despite not having received my certificate yet. However not all students on my course had received the initial email from the university until much later (during the summer), so if you weren't provided with the details and link to apply for the check, the university might still be going through the accepted offers, and you might have to wait a little while until they send you the details needed.

Of course, if you have any doubts, you could email the university to double check when they will provide you with the details necessary to start the DBS check process.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions 🙂
