hey! i unfortunately don’t do omam but i usually put context in the intro to get some immediate context marks (when the book was published, background about the author, how the title is significant - anything that is general about your book basically) for the main body paragraphs it depends on your book but have 3 main points obviously and ensure with each point you have a quote or a reference to the text and a piece of context for each quote used as context is half of the marks!! for the conclusion i usually obviously summarise my points but sometimes i add in an extra idea that i didn’t have enough time to add a full paragraph about!

hello! I do omam, I'm not *amazing* at it but I generally do okay on essays so I'll try to help.

My structure:

Introduction - my basic three points with a tiny mention of context (e.g. 'In Of Mice and Men, Steinbeck presents George as short-tempered, but extremely protective of and caring for Lennie. Furthermore, he makes it clear that George relies on Lennie, who prevents him from experiencing the loneliness felt by other itinerant workers and allows him to have a dream in the form of the dream farm.')

Paragraph 1 - evidence then analysis then context, 3 times, maybe some extra context at the end.

E.g. 'George says "guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world" and that he and Lennie are different to this as they "got somebody to talk to who gives a d--- about [them]"; this shows that George's close friendship with Lennie saves him from loneliness, which affected most itinerant workers in 1930s America as their lifestyle prevented them from forming meaningful or long-term connections with others, making George and Lennie atypical.'

Paragraph 2 - new point, same structure as paragraph 1 - try to make a link to the previous paragraph (either how it's related or how it shows something different - e.g. if paragraph 1 says George is short-tempered, your could say in paragraph 2 'however, he clearly cares about Lennie despite his angry outbursts)

Paragraph 3 - same thing

Conclusion - sum up points with a bit more detail and the main bit(s) of context (loneliness & dreams in this case) - think about what Steinbeck intended - e.g. (these examples isn't for the George essay) 'Through Curley's wife, Steinbeck aims to show the difficulty experienced by women in 1930s America' or 'Through Curley, Steinbeck displays and criticises the 'survival of the fittest' mindset of 1930s American society.'

Hope this helps!

Edit: I think it's clear already but context is super important so definitely read up on that and shove in as much as possible throughout the whole essay (not just at the ends of paragraphs / in the conclusion).

I found this note for of mice and men that has paragraph planning for each character and theme. I think they’ll be helpful to you https://sites.google.com/view/stride101/igcse-revision-resource
