what are everybody's predictions? mine are Kant and sex, NL and euthanasia, util generally, conscience (unfortunately), maybe Kant and business ethics

Same except maybe meta-ethics again instead of sexual ethics. For util I definitely think there could be something comparing act and rule and I'm hoping for Kant and CSR for business ethics.

has anyone got some really good notes on the conscience, i strugggglee to understand it! it makes NO sense.

in my opinion, it seems alot harder than it is+ its only two people really (Aquinas who believes the conscience is innately given by God and Freud who sees the conscience as guilt and our moral actions are due to repressed desires) I would look at 'I think therefore I teach' on youtube she is really helpful and gives in depth lessons on each topic.

omg I would love meta. I think act vs rule of even just a simple "is util good for decision making" cos they have asked that for al the other theories but not util!

could i get away with not revising meta ethics, its just too hard and i dont have alot of time

Does anyone have some evaluation for double effect?

The doctrine of double effect cannot be used to justify an action, such as killing someone as an act of self-defence because:

Human intention is impossible to judge from the outside, and yet it is fundamental to any moral judgement. We may doubt another person’s motives, but we cannot know them

Deontologists are mostly interested in actions as they can be observed

How can an act to save a life that involves taking a life only have one intention, when the life lost is inextricably connected to the life saved?

Having a secondary purpose is a way of smuggling something past the prohibition on killing

The doctrine of double effect can be used to justify an action, such as killing someone as an act of self-defence because:

It is possible for some actions to have two effects, one which upholds a precept and another which does not

If the person intends the good effect, then they can be justified in acting in that way. So self-defence is right if I am doing it to preserve life, but not if I am doing it to kill someone

The other effect is foreseen but not intended

Could there be a question simply on the doctrine of double effect? Unsure how I would structure that 😟

does anyone know exactly what the last conscience question they asked was? was it freud, aquinas, or freud and aquinas?

Reply 57

Could anyone please give me 3 topic points for 'Fletcher’s understanding of ‘agape’ means nothing more than wanting the best for the person involved in a given situation', I can only think of one paragraph on its roots in Christianity (I want to disagree with the claim and say it has deeper weight than simply doing the best thing)

It could be linked to euthanasia maybe but I think it would be really difficult to do

It was in 2022 and it was 'Compare Aquinas and Freud on the conscience and its role in moral decision - making' I believe
