Ipad Vs Macbook

I am currently in yr11, am I am beginning to wonder whether a Ipad or macbook is best. I am doing Biology, Chemistry, Geography and most likely a EPQ. Should I pick the laptop or a Ipad. Note: I already have laptop, but It's slow and not very useful, like at all. It was enough to get me through high school but a major change in my electronics is due anyways. The price is not something I am too fussed about

Thanks for reading
I was in the same situation a little over a year ago and went for an iPad over a MacBook just because i like having a touch screen and camera on my school device. I got a Logitech keyboard case so it basically functions as a laptop now ig. Youll need the keyboard for essays in geography and epq but you should be fine with an iPad and a keyboard for them. I used this setup for most of year 11 doing essay subjects and into year 12 doing essay competitions and its worked great for me. My sixth form advised laptops but I asked and they said it was fine considering my subject choice (STEM subjects with an EPQ)

I do A levels and have a macbook 2021 intel chip so it runs both windows and mac. Don't regret it whatsoever. When I take notes after class, the screen is large enough to use digital textbooks and to use word. I got mine for 400 second hand and it looks like a preserved artefact for the past 4 years - only a tiny scratch. They are durable and have a lot of storage making it easy to run things like adobe. I do business, computer science and geography, so I needed the intel chip so I could run Visual Studio on windows to code.

My friend has a ipad with the magic keyboard and pen, but she does sports science and benefits from having a pen to draw and annotate. On the other hand my friend who also does photography, history and biology has a macbook but with a silicone chip (so the M1, M2 M3 chips), but he does similar subjects to me in a way which are very text or laptop-necessary subjects (computer science/photography).

Ipad in my opinion is very similar to iphone, because it doesn't really have this ability to have the desktop display or run specific applications, but if you know you aren't really going to use it for desktop but potentially for playing mobile or ipad games like roblox, or are okay with a smaller screen, and would like something more portable, then feel free to get the ipad, especially because you are in year 11.

But one thing i would recommend is the magic keyboard. I have a feeling it might be a lifesaver if you are making notes because typing is genuinely way more convenient, and if you were to use the pencil (no hate) then you might as well just write on pen and paper because it looks like a pain, especially if EG it wont recognise your handwriting / the pencil runs out of battery / your hand accidentally touches the screen when you write. My brother has the ipad, keyboard and pen and it suits him well for high school (year 8 ) he has no complaints so i think it was a good investment.

I think the ipad is a good device to have from my point of view if i didnt do computer science, it looks very portable and looks like something you could use for your sciences. I just as a person dont mind carrying around a laptop, especially becasue im an a level student, and also because i prefer to play games on my phone than a computer, and becasue i like mechanical keyboards and working from home, and becasue I like a big desktop space!!!

You can always buy the ipad and then at the start of college you can buy the latter if it doesnt suit your needs. Vinted is very good for apple products at a cheap price. So do give that a look.

I have that exact ipad I think! I agree, a keyboard is super handy when writing notes
Chem will be benefitted with an iPad especially if you’re doing it for A level, where we gotta draw a lot of mechanisms, but I’m not sure about bio
Unrelated but cute Pardofelis pfp!
