University of Sheffield - Computer Science and AI Student - Ask Me Anything!

Hello Everyone,

I am Jivanthika, a 3rd year CS and AI student from the University of Sheffield. I stayed in Allen Court during 1st year which was really convenient for me as my lectures were a 2 minute walk away. It is also in city centre so it made running errands between lectures easier or I could quickly head back down to make a quick meal.

I am also currently the Vice President of Women in Engineering society, which aims to connect women throughout the engineering discipline to up-skill them through workshops like coding bootcamps or networking tips. This society has become a big part of my life in Sheffield and helped me meet so many incredible people. With over 350 societies, there is the chance for everyone to meet other people with similar interests and be a part of a community.

My favourite part of campus is Western Park as I play tennis so during the week before classes, my friend and I will sometimes head over to the tennis courts. Sheffield being a city university makes it convenient as it is easy to take breaks away from studying with lots of green spaces dotted around.

Let me know if you have any questions about apply for accom, computer science related, things to do in city or university life in general!

Hello,

1) In terms of international students diversity, we have around 33% of all students at the University of Sheffield who are from over 150 countries. We have a large community and the international student's committee run several events throughout the year to support students. The university runs a cafe meet-up every week for students to meet and relax.

2) There are several careers fairs events throughout the year where you can meet potential employers for summer internships, year in industry or graduate schemes. You can also gain real industry skills by joining student-led societies by applying your degree knowledge to problem solve, where projects range from developing prosthetics to rocket launches . One of our student led societies have even broken records and gone to America to compete in a competition. This allows you to get confidence in your skills and add things to your CV that make you stand out.

I hope that helps and let me know if you have any more questions!
