The Student Room Group

Confusion with a CYI application.

Hi, I'm looking for some help to clear some things up if possible please.

My current situation: I am 21 applying for my first student finance maintenance loan. As I am married, me and my partner have provided information to SFE. This application has been approved.

However, I would like to complete a Current Year Income assessment form. My partner's income hasn't dropped by the required 15%, but our combined income has dropped by over 15%. My first question is, the CYI application form states the 15% is based on household income, so is 'household income' both of our incomes combined (and not just his as the sole sponsor)?

If household income does mean our combined income, I will certainly meet the 15% reduction requirement. From that, though, how do I complete the CYI form? I see that it has columns for person 1 and person 2 to fill out income details. I am guessing my partner is one of these people. Do I leave the other person blank, or do I fill out this form too? If I DON'T fill out this form, how will SFE get my income details to calculate the 'household' income?

TIA for any clarification.

Household income for student finance purposes means your husband’s income plus any unearned income you receive (ie the income information you provided in your original application).

If your husband’s income hasn’t dropped by 15% then you wouldn’t be eligible for CYI reassessment.

Your earnings as the student are never included in your household income assessment. You could earn £0 or £10000000 working alongside your studies and it won’t change the amount of student loan you’re entitled to.

When did you submit your husband’s income information? When you apply your initial loan amount will be the standard amount everyone gets, the income assessment takes longer to be processed before your entitlement is increased.

Hi there,

As PQ has mentioned we do not take a students earned income into consideration when assessing your application and for you to be eligible to apply for Current Year Income the 15% drop in the household income would need to come from your partners income.

Thanks, Drew
