Anyone got any predictions for what’s gonna be on the paper this year?

Anyone have any good Illiad scholars to reference? I got taught by a horrible teacher last year for the Illiad topic and the new one (bless his heart) has been able to give us Aeneid scholars, but nothing else. :frown:

If you haven't found it, this website has some good resources (Under the WOTH Google-Drive folder) - you might have to click around a few to find one that works for you. That being said - I don't do Iliad so can't vouch for the specific ones. I think most schools do the Odyssey so maybe resources are more limited.
Otherwise, poke around on Quizlet?

possibly for the Aeneid it may be a character centred essay or something focused on violence, tragedy and war. for the iliad mortality and the human condition, achilles' character or maybe women? (based off 2020-24 past papers)

My teacher has mentioned Turnus as a character, however he has come up in 2023 so I'd be wary of that. I have noticed that for the Odyssey disguise and recognition hasn't really come up at all in recent papers, I'm wondering whether that's something that OCR just don't really choose, or whether it'll be a big question this year.

aeneid 10 marker was book two and pessimistic portrayal of war and 20 marker how the trojans are pitiful but can’t mention aeneas
iliad 10 marker was on hector as heroic and 20 marker was on fate
not sure on iliad 30 marker but aeneid was on women

Can we get away with making up scholar quotes in a bad situation. Like i might have to use a real scholar, but make up somehthing they didn't say to suit my argument. surely that would be nearly impossible for an examiner to go thorugh their complete works to find out/ complete waste of time for them?

Honestly its a complete waste of time trying to make up quotes / scholars 😔. The examinars will know , and when they don't , they do infact go through all their work to see if it's true. Your best bet it to not include them at all if you are unsure f it is real and / or true. It is possible to get 26 or 27 / 30 without scholars so long as the rest of the essay is sound.

(Homer, Iliad, 17.198–215, 223–235) Explain how Hector is shown in a heroic way [10]
Discuss what you have learned about fate from your study of the Iliad. Explain what the existence of fate adds to the epic. [20]

(Virgil, Aeneid, 2.348–369) Explain how Virgil paints a pessimistic picture of warfare [10]
‘The Trojans are always presented in a pitiful manner in the Aeneid.’ Explain whether you agree with this statement. Do not include discussion of Aeneas. [20]

Assess whom you consider to be more admirable: Aeneas or Hector/Odysseus. [10]

‘An anti‐war poem.’ Evaluate how far you think this is true of the way fighting and its consequences are portrayed in the Iliad. Justify your response. [30]

No women, no goddesses: no story.’ Evaluate how far everything revolves around women and goddesses in the Aeneid. Justify your response. [30]

only discovered ysterday it was tmrw.... 😁 if that makes any one else feel batter.

Honestly just really nervous but I'm praying that there's a question on parent-child relationships in both The Odyssey and The Aeneid; even something to do with The Aeneid being a political story wouldn't be TOO bad
