Did anyone actually know when Socrates died for Greek Religion? I was just thinking last night if I needed to know any dates but I decided against it 😭

399 !!

Ah yeah same, I put that and then literally that he introduced reforms because I was confused. Makes sense now but that's still an annoying question

For the 30 marker, did you do the Plato one?

What did everyone think of the Love and Relationships paper? I totally ran out of time on my 30 marker but I had so many ideas to write 😭😭

i did the exact same thing, all of a sudden realised at the end of 20 marker that I'd spent ages yapping and had to bring it back together at the end while eating into my 30 mark time, painful.30 mark question was nice, just wish i could have written so much more

Yeah, I wrote kyrbeis wooden panels rotating in the agora, but then after realised it should have been the fact he was a poet

I did his poetry and the kyrbeis, i think it was a pointless question to be honest

Democracy and the Athenians- how did everyone find the 20 marker because I don't understand the whole 'he was the wisest man to ever live'. Like how did that have any relevance to democracy and how does that really link to his reforms. Also I was thrown off by the 'subsequent events'

Guys for Athenian Democracy and in general, for the 30 markers do you need to put every single important detail in the plays or sources mentioned? I put some big important ones but my mind blanked and forgot other important ones

Whatever is relevant for you argument and it doesn't need to be in detail as long as you can link it to the questions; for me and the plato i talked about his idea of the philsopher king and just the fact that they loved truth and hated lies and that meant they wouldn't be easily corrupted. And for the Aristophanes plays i literally gave a sentance as I was referring to his criticsms of the assembly (Archanians and Assemblywomen) and his dislike for Cleon (Wasps and Knights but for Wasps I literally just said how the main characters names were making fun of cleon and that for knights he tells his audience to not be fooled by demagogues like cleon)

I thought the 20 marker was weird ngl, and the acropolis diagram felt hard to talk about what was useful, but the 30 markers were BLESSED
100% agreed
I quite liked the paper until I came out and realised I missed the bit that specified ‘Athens’ in the 20 marker so praying it will be ok now🙏. Fortunately I had a few bits of relevant evidence per para so hoping that pulls me through anything which gets marked as irrelevant!🤞30 marker was lovely!

Guys I wrote about Erchia's religious calendar in the 20m Greek Religion Question about Athens am I cooked? I did speak about the cultural dominance of Homer and Hesiod in Athens as well as the severity of the polis in Athens deterring impiety but I also yapped about panhellenic sites that Athenians could visit and archaeological evidence of support towards the gods by 1st and 2nd century AD despite the date being 399BC showing that support surpassed that time period...is there too much irrelevant detail

I think that sounds fine. I argued that it wasn’t really declining because the religion continued beyond the time of Socrates’ trial. And Erchia is a deme in Athens so sounds like good evidence!

Any thoughts on POTLR?? I thought it was really good !!

The Cicero 20 marker was beautiful but that Cato+Pompey 10 was a bit odd..

Reply 92

I agree completely! Everyone in my class also agreed that the 10 marker was weird so we are definitely not alone in thinking that haha

^ this, like as long as it's specific enough that you show you KNOW the source it's fine imo. I didn't directly quote Republic coz why would I spend my time learning that lol, but I could explain the metaphors and what they represent in detail so imo that kinda stuff is fine??? but do feel free to correct me if u think im wrong

Yeah I did - went down the obvious route of Plato, Old Oligarch and Aristophanes. Don't think I did anything amazing but the question seemed pretty nice

Sorry to hear about your access arrangements - by the sounds of it you probably did well though. I chose the Plato one because I find it easier to recall author stuff in a 30. Which did you do?
