i'm thinking of doing dentistry when i'm in uni (i'm in yr 10 rn) but i'm not sure what the requirements are? i know they differ from uni to uni, but is there a basic set requirement for all unis? thanks!
also i think i want to go to a more competitive uni, as i know lots of people in unis like ucl and imperial and places like harvard and stanford

Hi there!

The requirements for dentistry vary slightly from uni to uni so you'd have to do a bit of research into different unis' courses and see exactly what you need (example, example). Generally you need a good performance in your biology/chemistry and maths (A-A* at A level) and a good overall GCSE profile, with particular attention to English, Maths and Science.

For example, at the Uni of Bristol, you need AAA at A-Level including Biology and one of Maths/Chem/FM/Physics, as well as 7 in Maths and a 4 in English. You'd also need to do a UCAT and are encouraged to have a bit of work experience.

I'd recommend looking into a few courses at unis you may want to go to, checking out their entry requirements and looking into the possibility of arranging some dentistry-related work experience. Have you also considered doing something dentistry-related for an EPQ when you get to sixth form? Just build up your interest and experience in the subject more by reading, watching TED talks and getting any experience you can - it all counts as things to talk about in your personal statement.

However, dentistry is an extremely competitive course, so whilst it is 100% possible for you to go for it, it might be sensible to have some safe options for unis, such as dentistry courses with lower entry requirements or another related course you may also be interested in (e.g. biochemistry, biomedical sciences, pharmacy).

I hope this helps a bit, best of luck with everything!

Btw, Bath doesnt offer Dentistry - so its no surprise that their response tells you nothing useful about applying for Dentistry.
