Things I Wish I Know During Exam Season

Hello, everyone! 😊

My name is Nally, and I am a second-year student in Media, Communications and Sociology at City St George’s, University of London. As exam season is approaching, I will be sharing some of my experience with exam preparation and assignment deadlines. Exam preparation can be very stressful, and I totally get it! Here are a few things I wish someone had told me before:

- Plan your study schedule!
Effective time management helps you to stay organized and focused, avoiding burn out due to overwhelming materials. Be sure to break down your revision into manageable chunks and allocate specific time slots for each subject or topic.

- You don’t need to study all day to be productive!
It’s more about how you study, not how long you study. Since each person learns differently, find a study method that works best for you. Some examples include active recalls, pomodoro technique, chunking and repetition.

- Breaks are totally fine so do take breaks!
Do not sit for hours and hours without taking breaks. The best way to avoid this is to set yourself time intervals where you will take a break. For example, taking a five-minute break to get up and walk around, drink some water and do some stretching. This will help you to focus better and refresh your mind.

- Sleep is just as important as studying!
Taking care of your physical and mental health is crucial to maintain your focus and productivity. Staying hydrated and getting adequate sleep will keep your mind and body in good condition.

It’s totally to feel stressed or anxious during this time but try not to be too hard on yourself. Take moments to rest, to recognize your efforts and remember that exams are just one part throughout the whole academic journey.
Stay focused and don't forget to rest too!

Thank you Nally these are great tips! Do you have any recommendations for apps to help plan out revision?

Hi there, I'm glad that you like my revision tips.
Here are some great apps that can help you plan and manage your revision effectively: Notion (creating custom revision dashboards, to-do lists), Google Calendar (arrange revision time slot, set reminder), TickTick (combines a to-do list with a calendar and Pomodoro timer) and Forest (great for Pomodoro-style revision - 25 mins work, 5 mins break).
