young professionals conference

Hi anyone who’s been to a Young professionals conference before- I am in year 12 and aspiring to becoming a solicitor through the university route. Are the conferences targeted towards apprenticeships? would they still be useful for people looking to go to university? As I’ve come across a conference in July in London but not sure if it’s for me.

Hey there!

Great to hear you're already thinking ahead about your career that kind of mindset in Year 12 will definitely help you stand out later on.

I’ve been to a Young Professionals event before, and while some of their conferences do focus on the apprenticeship route, a lot of them are actually designed to be useful for all students whether you’re looking at university, apprenticeships, or just exploring your options. If you're planning to go down the university route and become a solicitor, it can still be really valuable.

Here’s why: the events usually bring together professionals from big law firms and other industries, and they talk about things like the different routes into the legal profession, what firms look for in applicants, and how to build a strong application which applies whether you’re going for an apprenticeship or a traditional degree. There are also networking opportunities and Q&A sessions, so you can get insights into legal careers, firm culture, and expectations from people actually in the field.

If you’ve found a conference in July in London, I’d say go for it especially if it’s free or low-cost. Even if it ends up being more apprenticeship-focused, you’ll still walk away with a better understanding of the legal sector, and you might meet people who can support your journey (like reps from firms that also offer vacation schemes or insight days for university students).

So yes even if it’s not exclusively geared toward aspiring uni applicants, it can definitely still be worth your time. Hope that helps and good luck with your journey to becoming a solicitor!
