Only 2 offers for law

Okay so I’m stuck on what to do and I’ll explain why :

So I applied to 5 RG unis for law with A*A*A predicted grades, 23 on my LNAT and 988766665 and got rejected by 3 (sad I know) only getting an offer from Queen Mary and Nottingham.

Now I’m lost on what to do. Should I just focus on going to QM or Notts (even tho I strongly dislike both of them and don’t see myself at either) or try and get into History at UCL thru clearing (they still have vacancies on the course) then do a law conversion?

So basically would it be smart to reject a law offer at 2 lower Russel groups unis to do a different course at a higher uni for someone that wants to be a lawyer?

Why did you apply to them if you never saw yourself going to them? Conversion is an option, but will you be happy to do that?

Look ahead. It's not the time regretting your choice of unis.

Is law still your passion? If you say yes I would suggest you taking Nottingham or Queen Mary, both have very good law schools.

LNAT is so unpredictable. LNAT unis are very demanding in stats, so every candidate taking LNAT must have very beautiful stats, but still about half of them score less than 50%. Perhaps LNAT is merely a tool for those competitive unis to screen out some (or more correctly say nearly half) of the high talented applicants effortlessly. You are just one of these thousands unlucky guys (every year about 6k students take the LNAT). So rejection from LNAT is not a shame nor failure.

With LNAT so predictable, taking a gap year for it might not be a good idea. You are a
capable student proven by your Notts and QM offers. They are very good law schools. Notts dropped out from LNAT last year doesn't mean it had deteriorated. But it probably a
sign that Notts are treating every application more seriously.

Maybe you could look at the modules of Notts and QM and firm the one that you like mire, or dislike less. Then focus at your exam to get the highest possible grades. Then sit down and think it over again. There is no need to rush for the decision.

Good Luck.

You are a capable student proven by Nottingham and Queen Mary offers.

Have you visited either Notts of QM?

There must have been something about them that you liked if they were in your top 5 choices?

Just because a course is open in Extra doesn’t mean it will be available in Clearing.

23 is a low LNAT score - not enough for a competitive Uni like UCL, and most LNAT Unis will also read/score your LNAT essay. This probably explains the rejections.

Notts in particular is a top Uni for Law. What was it you didnt like or is this actually just about vanity and you see yourself as a 'better' student than those at Notts? Be honest about this.

You need to work out if you actually want to study Law at all, and work through the over-focus on UCL. I'd suggest that you Firm/Insure with the two offers you have, wait for Results Day, and on the basis of the grades you achieve, make a decision about going with any Law place you may then have, or taking a gap year and reapplying (with more work on LNAT skills) - or A level resits if needed.

As already asked, why did you apply to two universities that you don't wish to study at? You should study the subject which most interests you, whether that is law or something else. Pay no attention to university rankings, for the reasons explained here approximately eleventy bazillion times a week.

PS: There is no such thing as the Russel Group.

Oxford (post interview), Warwick and UCL. The first 2 basically said there were stronger applicants and UCL said it was my LNAT essay.

I put QM and Notts down because i did 2 year programs with them that made my grade entry requirements significantly lower than they normally are. So I put them down just for that reason not actually thinking they’d be my only 2 offers lol

Hi, I am in the same boat as you and wondering whether to take gap year and reapply when i receive my results. As someone who is in same position if you really think you’re heart is not in it and you don’t mind doing history i say go for it. You don’t want to be in a university unhappy. Although i do say have strong thought on whether is it just for the status of the university or you genuinely don’t want to go. As Nottingham is a good University for Law and if you really want to go UCL you can try put postgrad. Hope this helps

UCL also rejected me for my LNAT essay - and I only got Bristol and Exeter this year! I'd focus on getting those grades and thinking over the summer about your options. Notts is an amazing university for Law and they're very highly ranked for social culture!! You've done really well

Congratulations to your offers.

Bristol is very demanding and put significant emphasis on LNAT essay. You must have done very well!

Concentrate your effort in the exam. Good Luck.

Hey what was your gcse and a level grades ?

Nottingham and QMUL have higher average entry grades than Warwick for Law. Warwick favours the historically 'disadvantaged' applicant to some extent.

Please don't pay attention to university rankings! I study law and the quality of teaching is the same between practically all top-50 unis because the tutors work part-time between a lot of different unis due to not getting paid enough for the cost-of-living. My friend has a criminal law tutor who works between UCL, SOAS, LSE and Sheffield (he does not get sleep). QM, Notts and UCL are RG unis, which mean they have a really good careers service, and this makes it easier to seek help to become a lawyer (as you mentioned). However, they will not spoon-feed and re-write your applications for you- you have to do the work. My point is the uni you go to, whether it is a 'higher/lower RG', does not matter when applying to law training contracts- you can definitely get a TC even if you go to a non-RG uni! The course you are applying to definitely doesn't matter either. Half of the people who apply to a TC are generally from a non-law academic background. Do what you enjoy

I agree! You make a very good point about academics teaching at several universities. It is not unusual for an academic to have two or three jobs.
