Unsure of what to firm/UCAS

I applied for 4 different courses and miraculously got an offer to all 5. These are:
Kingston = Pharmacy
City = Optometry
King's College London = Chemistry
Queen Mary = Chemistry
UCL = Chemical engineering

I love all of them equally in my heart and genuinely I have a passion for all of them. Im genuinely struggling with what to pick. What would you do if you were in my predicament. [dont pick unis based in how prestigious they are, i want something i can enjoy that can give me a good shot at a job in the future]

Choose the course you prefer, then consider the location.

I genuinely dont prefer anything. Location wise its all in london so it doesnt really matter. Only kingston is a tiny bit further but its all fine. I was wondering more on the job side of things whats the best one for future prospects
If you genuinely like them all equally then there is no wrong choice.

Have you been to offer holder days for all of them?

It's hard for us to answer - these really are 4 significantly different courses. The first two are accredited degrees which you'd need for a particular profession, the next three are general academic degrees. I know you say don't go for prestige, but if you're going for an academic degree and genuinely have no preference I would look at UCL and Kings first. A strong brand name is far from everything but it isn't exactly nothing either (unfortunately). If you're going for an accredited degree for Optometry or Pharmacy with view to become an optometrist or pharmacist I'd imagine it doesn't matter much if at all. But you should go into those degrees with serious intention, I think, it would be bizarre to end up on either of those courses with no intention of going into a related industry.

Have you spoken to e.g. your school about your application? Are you sure you have no preference at all?

This is up to you but in terms of career prospects although pharmacy is good there is a plethora of pharmacists and pharmacies and thus could be good in employment but it also means if there is an abundance is there really a demand anymore? Optometry and pharmacy as degrees can be limiting because you can only really go into those fields unless you do a grad degree in a different subject, a chemistry degree is good but if you are very focused on job prospects pharmacy might be more useful than chemistry if that degree qualifies you to be a pharmacist ofc. Chemical engineering is very good as well but I’m unsure of the specific job opportunities there will probably be a lot as an engineering degree is very valued in many fields (even finance). This is really not just based on your favourite uni but where you see yourself working as. Good luck!

Hi,

Firstly congratulations on your offers!!!

I don't personally study pharmacy here at Kingston, but I do have friends who do and enjoy. I am happy to answer any questions you may have :smile:

You will be based at Penrhyn Road, which is like the main campus here at Kingston. It is just a 10 minute walk from the centre of Kingston, where there are lots of shops and places to eat. It is nice to go to a café and study or eat by the river. Lots of things are based at Penrhyn such as the student union, careers centre and the university gym. There is also a library, cafes and canteens.

I would really recommend coming to an open day as that is what helped me make a decision, you get a feel for the university as to want it might be like to study and live here, the opportunity to talk to current students and staff and see the facilities. There is actually an open day happening this Saturday!! But there will be more throughout the year keep an eye out on the website Open Days and events | Kingston University London

I will link a few previous post I have done that may help you make your decision:

Hi!

Congrats on your offer of optometry from City! I don’t study optometry at City, but I’m part of the School of Health and Medical Sciences here at City (which is also what optometry is a part of). So, I thought that it would be helpful to give you some insight into this department!
All of the optometry students I spoke to really enjoyed the course and they are very happy with their choice. City has great facilities for optometry students and you will be able to practice on fellow students as part of your course. Also, you get a lot of clinical and professional practice in your degree, which will really help you with employability. The employability team here at City is fantastic, there is a lot of support given to students where you can book 1-to-1 career advice meetings, practice for mock interviews, get your CV reviewed and so much more. If there is one course that I know students are satisfied with here at City, it’s definitely optometry! I would suggest thoroughly researching your options before committing, but I hope that I was able to provide you with some helpful information. Please don’t hesitate to message me for more information and I’ll try my best to answer!

Please have a look at our website for more information on Optometry or to check for any possible open days:
Master of Optometry MOptom (Hons) City St George's, University of London

I wish you the best for the future,
Ishrat ☺️
