Driving test petition

Hi everyone.

I saw this petition on TikTok about the practical test wait times.

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/702760

I don’t know if these actually work. But it only takes like 10 seconds to sign it. May as well try to get it to hit the 10k signatures, and hope something useful happens.

Minimum of six months waiting time for driving tests and people in England are actually crossing the border into Scotland to take there tests causing big backlog for people taking there tests in Scotland - this shouldn't be allowed....... ???

I know it’s pathetic.

I failed my test a few days ago and spent 3 days in bed crying about it. I know that is a little stupid, but I am on a timeline, and due to other circumstances it’s going to be very hard for me to get my license before my theory expires (unless I can get it within the next 6 weeks). And I ideally need to get it within 2 years, which is plenty of time but considering problem getting a test, that’s only 3-4 attempts and a lot of ££££ on lessons.

I feel like employing more examiners isn’t going to do anything useful. They need to stop bots buying the tests or people bulk booking the tests. If they create more test slots, the people who get them in bulk are just going to make more money. I mean having more test slots will also be helpful considering the backlog, but the main issue at the moment are the resellers.

Aww sorry you failed your test few days back but I think the DVLA allocate for xxx passes per day and rest of them all fail so that they can still justify having all the test examiners throughout the country.... easy money made by this. ( You could have been perfect throughout but due to the system you probably been next person for to fail).

You'll pass soon when you get a retake date arranged. Don't be moaning or groaning about it as no point as you just have to look forward to next time you are doing it..

Yes you only get two years to pass your driving test after you sit your theory and if not done within that time you'll have to redo your theory again which is wrong but they make the rules.

They can employ thousands and thousands of extra examiners and they probably won't clear the backlog for a few years at least.
Maybe working 7 days per week will help in some way but still not going to help anyone very soon.

I understand that lessons are very exciting those days and obviously the last thing you want to do is more lessons until you get a test date again.....

A lot of the issues arise from COVID and also strike action at Swansea head office.

Do you have any data on how much of this issue is actually down to automated block bookings vs the fact the DVLA is simply gutted like most public services, industrial action etc?
