Can I switch courses from CS?

I've just confirmed my only offer (CS at Strathclyde) can anyone who has switched courses share your experience? I'm happy doing literally anything else I'm just not sure what/when/how to do this??? Thanks : )

So you applied to do Computer Science, but you're now so against it that you'd prefer to study "literally anything else"?! What happened to turn you so completely against the subject?

If you no longer want to study Computer Science, then contact the admissions team and ask if they'd consider you for a different course. Please actually name the other course you'd like to be considered for (rather than just saying "literally anything else") as they'll need to know what department should consider your application.

Hi @nat5gamersupreme 🙂 As DataVenia has said - you'll need to contact the admissions teams to discuss your options. If you really aren't interested in the course then you shouldn't accept it with the intention solely of switching to another.

If you do have another course of interest let me know and I can give you the contact details for the admissions teams. Course changes aren't guaranteed and the offer of study has been made on the basis of you wanting to start Computer Science so it doesn't mean you'd be able to move to any other course.

Thanks for replying! Sorry if my original post sounded stupid; I was hoping to do something more engineering/electronics related but I don't have any physics qualifications - do you know if it would even be possible to switch to something like this maybe at some point later in the course? Thanks! : )

Hiya @nat5gamersupreme I'd recommend emailing [email protected]. The questions you're looking to ask are whether they'd accept a transfer from computer science in to the computer and electronic systems degree, and what they'd expect you to achieve in Year 1 if the answer is 'yes' to that. Include your UCAS ID in the email and you could also ask at this point if they'd accept you this year for entry to the programme, but if you don't have a Physics or Engineering Science qualification this may not be an option as it's part of the requirements.

That being said - even if they do say they'd consider you for a transfer this doesn't mean it's guaranteed. You'd apply for an internal transfer which is then considered by the teams internally. Ultimately if you don't want to do Computer Science you could ask the Engineering department which route they'd recommend instead. It may be better, for example, to study for a year at college (rather than starting a course you don't want to do, and hoping that an internal transfer would be successful).

Get in touch with the Engineering admissions team to see what they recommend! Good luck 🙂
