College or Advanced highers (S6)

Hello, My interest lies in criminology or forensics and for both I don’t have to do S6.
My question is if I can do some course in college instead of S6 and if I can which course should it be or staying at school is better.
Thanks

tbh id just go to college, s6 feels like a massive waste of time if you dont really need the subjects youre studying but thats just my opinion

Hi Ally! 😊

It’s great that you already know the direction you want to go in -criminology or forensics are both super interesting fields!

If you already have the qualifications you need, either staying on at school for S6 or going to college sound like they could be good options!- it sounds to me like it really just depends on your personal preference. (: - College courses can sometimes offer a more practical or hands-on approach, and if you feel like you’d thrive better in that environment, it could be a great move. There’s also the option to stay at school and head to college later too, so don’t feel you need to rush the decision if your unsure. (:

It might help to ask yourself if staying on at school is more for the social aspect (prom, leavers etc) or the education side of things, Advanced highers are always a great way of getting to specialise in a particular area in much more detail than you would at higher however if your more certain in what you want to do you might find college have more specfic courses availible, it’s definitely worth looking into the courses available near you and seeing what alligns with your interests!

Whatever path you choose, you’ve got options, and both routes can lead you to where you want to be 😀

Hope this helps!
Emily (:

Are you likely to be thinking that you would want to work in Criminology or Forensics or are you wanting to do the course because this is something you are interested in and want to know more about? I only ask because I want to make sure that if you want to do a job in either of these subjects that you have researched what jobs are currently available because that will tell you what the competition for work is when you have graduated.

I know that some years back there were more people studying both of these subjects each year than there were jobs available bearing in mind that both of these jobs already had people working in them and a job only became available if someone left.
