Is city university of london a good university?

Hi, i got into all 5 of my university choices for journalism and have firmed city although im feeling a little hesitant about my choice now.. I rarely see anything about the university online and if i do it’s someone doing tiktoks interrupting the lecture & the university campus doesn’t look the best it’s giving “highschool” ?? can someone give me there honest opinion or maybe i should reapply in september? why does literally nobody talk about this uni? is it cause everyone is a international or foreign student? because the only things i do see is foreign students posting about it? (nothing wrong with that) never locals or people who are from the UK..? are the grade acceptance rates low? like UGH..

Perhaps the reason you feel that "literally nobody talk about this uni" is because you're looking in the wrong places?

For example, you posted this question about Journalism at City in the Medical Schools forum.

I've moved it to City, University of London forum. If you look around, you're likely to find more people talking about this university here.

Hi there,

Totally hear you this is a big decision, and it’s completely normal to feel unsure after firming your choice. I understand your uncertainty, and I really appreciate how honestly you’ve shared how you're feeling.

I’m a current student at City St Georg's, University of London, and a Student Ambassador, and while I don’t study Journalism myself, I hope I can share some insights that help you feel more reassured.

City has a strong reputation in journalism, and the course is part of the School of Communication & Creativity, which puts a big focus on industry experience and real-world learning. I’m sure some of our Journalism students could share even more specific experiences, but from what I’ve seen, there are some great opportunities there.

In terms of what you’ve seen online that’s totally fair. City has a large international student community (which is one of its strengths!), so it might just be that international students are more active when it comes to posting content. A lot of local students engage in different ways and might not share their experiences as publicly online, which can sometimes give a skewed impression.

That said, the low-key social media presence really doesn’t reflect the student experience as a whole. If you’d like to get a better sense of what student life is like, I recommend checking out the City SU website and our Instagram page it’s a better glimpse into the day-to-day vibe on campus.

About the campus I get what you mean. City is an urban university, so the campus is more integrated into London than a traditional campus might be. That means it might not have that “classic” uni feel, but being in central London also means you're close to loads of industry opportunities, events, and placements which is especially valuable for a subject like Journalism.

If you’re still unsure, take some time to reflect on what’s making you feel hesitant but don’t worry, it’s completely natural to feel this way. You’ve made a big decision, and it’s okay to have doubts. Try thinking about what matters most to you in a uni whether it’s the course content, the community, the location, or the facilities and see how City matches up with those priorities. And of course, you can always reach out (like to me!) if you have questions. You’ve got options, and you’re definitely not alone.

Also, if you’ve firmed your offer, you should’ve received invites to some online sessions and Q&As they’re a really great way to speak directly with academics and current students, and might help you feel more confident in your decision.

Happy to help with anything else feel free to drop more questions here! 😊
