Exeter scholars

Does anyone have any experience with the summer schools?Im a year 10 thinking of applying but I’m unsure what the summer school would entail.

My son attended last summer to Exeter Penryn campus as an Exeter Scholar. Basically it was like trying out uni for a week. He really enjoyed it. Exeter uni have been really supportive with his application to attend as an undergraduate starting 2025. He met loads of students on the train and then spent a week in halls. Everyone was interested in different courses too.
As a parent I recommend it and my son would too.

Took part a few years ago (online), really enjoyed it. Would recommend trying to go for it if you can, they pay all the expenses for you I believe so minus any losses from part time work you won't be out of pocket.

Main thing is it gets you a reduced offer (great) and if you end up at Exeter they used to offer an achievement bursary (also great)

Effectively the programme itself was a series of sessions each day, we had work to do but it wasn't anything particularly too heavy and the lecturers weren't expecting any specific knowledge from you

Hi anonymous!

Thank you for your question, I would strongly recommend that you apply for the Exeter Scholars residential! I've worked on the Y10 residential and had so much fun working with the students, so I'm happy to tell you all about it!

As other commenters have mentioned, you will be eligible to receiving a reduced offer upon applying to Exeter, should you complete the residential and scholars programme. Essentially, the residential will introduce you to 'university' and what you can expect from studying away from home. You'll be staying in halls on campus and you'll be taking part in sessions that introduce you to different aspects of university, whether that's through taster lectures or informational sessions. As well as this, meals, travel and accommodation is paid for so there is no need to worry about having to pay out of pocket. Residentials are a great way for you to make friends, learn more about what studying at university entails and building key skills so I would greatly encourage you to submit your application!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
