Kent or Royal Holloway?

Hi guys,

I am taking BSc Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) course and have been accepted at both Royal Holloway and Kent.

Which one do you think is better to go to bearing in mind the course choice as well?

Thanks!

Hi,
I hope you are well!😊

While I do not study Computer Science (I study Social Science), and I am a bit biased because I have loved my time here at Kent. I thought I'd hop on and tell you a few things about Kent.

I'm sure you know lots about the course already, but here's a few things about Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) at Kent:

The course is accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT.

The course is comprised of some compulsory and many optional modules. You can explore the current modules available in the section 'what you'll study'. Current students have the option of modules in Programming, Algorithms, Video Games Development, and Software Engineering Practice, and more. Modules may change from year to year but the current modules give a good idea of what you might study.

Students engage in tutorials, workshops, group work, lectures, seminars, and independent study too.

The School of Computing has some great facilities including 3D printers, a laser cutter, and spaces for students to work on projects or independent learning.

You'll study at Canterbury Campus, which is a lovely campus has everything you'll need all in walking distance. Students can find student support, the library, cafes and places to eat, and lecture/teaching rooms in walking distance so the campus is great if you like everything in one place. The campus also has lots of green spaces, has a club called the venue, and places for students to meet up. Lastly, the campus and campus accommodation is only a short car or bus ride from Canterbury centre which has some lovely cafes, green spaces, shops and places to eat.

There is also a range of accommodation available to students, you can browse the options here.

If you have any specific questions about the course then let me know and I'll try my best to find someone who can answer them😊

Here's a few of my experiences:

I've loved my time here at Kent. I've been able to engage in part-time work which fits around my studies through the student ambassador scheme, and through Kent Jobshop. These schemes have worked around my schedule and availability, and has allowed me to develop some great skills alongside my studies, as well as some extra money!

Kent has a Careers and Employability service which I have made use of. The service is great for asking questions about future careers and exploring different options. Kent also has a Student Support and Wellbeing service which I have also used. They are a very friendly and approachable on hand to support students with their studies. I've also had an ILP (Inclusive Learning Plan) throughout my studies, which puts support in place for my health condition. Let me know if you want more info on ILP's🙂

Kent also has lots of Societies for students to join. You can explore student groups here!

I hope this helps! 🙂
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best wishes,
Josie

Thanks Josie, do you know anything about gym scholarships?

Hi,
I hope you are well!😊

Are you referring to the sports scholarships when you say gym scholarships? Also we'd love to know if you play a specific sport!😊
If you are, you can find information about Kent's Sports Scholarships here. The website states that the "application window for the 2025/26 scheme has now closed. Applications for the 2026/27 scheme will open in November 2025". "The application form for returning scholars for 2024/25 has now closed. Applications for the 2025/26 scheme will open in the summer of 2025."

There are also a host of other scholarships at Kent too, which are definitely worth looking through. You can find them here. They all have their individual deadlines and requirements, but all the information is on each scholarship 🙂

Kent also offers students free memberships to access the gym and fitness facilities on campus to all first year students. Find more information about this here.

Best wishes,
Josie
