MPhil in Philosophy 2025-26

Has anyone applied for the MPhil in Philosophy? If so, did you receive an offer and how long did it take to receive an offer from the time of submission of your academic references?

What status is yours on? Mine is still under review by department. I emailed postgrad admissions and they said a decision would be made for this cycle by end of May, so expect a decision by then.

I did, literally made an account just to follow this thread lol. Although I applied by the April deadline, so they say I might hear back by July - I hope it's sooner.

I’ve received offers from LSE, UCL, and St Andrews and need to respond to them by the end of May. Because I’m also in the running for an external scholarship (from Australia so fees are super high) which I’d need to go in the first place, I asked the admissions office if they could process it as soon as possible with these factors in mind. Nevertheless one applicant is a mere number in the computer for them, it seems. Never mind the fact that accepting offers as an overseas student requires an expensive early lump sum payment etc. so it’s not like I can accept one existing offer then go back on it if Cambridge come through late.

Wait, if that's true, that's really great news - thanks for letting us know !! I'll keep my fingers crossed. Also good to know I'm not the only one applying in April...

I'm also overseas, I'm 100% with you it's a bit stressful because I have to start my visa application etc. But honestly it's my fault for applying so late, I can't complain. Congrats on your other offers, you've got some great choices whatever happens with Cambridge.

Hey, just wanted to say I asked about the timeline for the Philosophy MPhil on the general Cambridge graduate students admission thread, and someone told me that the committee is meeting next on May 19th, and then it might take a couple weeks to hear back after that. Hope that's helpful.

I’ve read elsewhere in this site that if your status gets changed to decision pending it means they’ve accepted you but are just finalising the admin side of things. If true, we should be able to infer how we’ve gone by the end of next week.

Nothing. Portal status is still "under review by department." You? Waiting is the WORST

Exactly the same. Under review by department.
Emailed the department today and just got a copy paste “a decision will be made by the end of May” message.

Oof. Hoping it's sooner rather than later. Also hope them still being at "under review by department" doesn't mean our applications haven't been advanced to the degree committee/PAO

Well they had their philosophy committee meeting on Monday. I’d say there’s probably some administrative lag between their meeting and updating their decisions on the portal.
