DSA for ensuite accommodation at uni

Hi, I'm applying to uni and am wondering if there's any way to get money off of the cost for ensuite accommodation especially as prices are going up so much. Would I either be able to get a DSA to help pay my rent or go directly through the uni and ask them for financial aid with the cost of the rooms off the back of an autism diagnosis? If I tell them that being autistic makes sharing a bathroom with other people a source of stress (not untrue) is there any chance I could get help with that?
Thank you

If your accommodation is owned or associated with the university then they are responsible for providing accessible accommodation for you at no extra cost. If it is a private accommodation then DSA funding is possible to pay the difference in cost between that and ‘standard’ accommodation. However you will need medical evidence to support you request for specialist accommodation in order to be eligible for dsa funding towards it

My autistic daughter has an ensuite for the price of a standard room. It is in her DSA assessment. If she is in university accommodation the university pays. But if she is in private accommodation DSA pays. Her university (Keele) provides ensuites at this price for other autistic students including some who don't have a formal diagnosis. One has just got a letter from her GP. I would suggest explaining to your DSA assessor that it would be helpful and you'd find it stressful sharing a bathroom and that you need the space to decompress and it is awkward and stressful for you sharing a bathroom with others. It was actually suggested by my daughter's assessor. BTW, if you have had an assessment, you can go back and ask for things to be added.

The policy changed a few months ago so to secure funding you’ll need medical evidence. Your assessor will be able to discuss in more detail with you
