East Park or Moberly? Exeter

Hi, I have been offered a place at the University of Exeter to study Computer Science in September and am having a tough time choosing between Moberly and East park for my accommodation.

Are there any current students that can share any insight on what both of them are like?

Thank you!

Hey, first off congratulations on getting an offer for CompSci! As someone about to finish their CompSci degree, I've had a great time on my course.

For the accommodations, East Park is newer, so it's gonna be slightly more 'modern'. It also has En-suite options which Moberly doesn't have, but for Standard rooms they're about the same size (9.5m2). East Park is also closer to the Forum (central building on Streatham Campus). Moberly however I've heard tends to have a quite nice community aspect, since it's one of the smaller accommodations on campus, so you can learn and meet all the flats in your accommodation decently easily.
Hope this helps, and lmk if you have any other questions!

Hi contlolpa,

Congratulations on your offer! I currently live in East Park, so I can definitely give you some idea into what that looks like, and I hope I can also do Moberly some justice, as it is equally lovely.

East Park is one of the newer accommodations on campus, and really is worth the price you pay. No matter what block you're in, you will have access to study rooms, and even a game room with a pool table. The reception is also one of the ones that stays open longer, including on the weekends, which is really convenient when you have a next-day delivery, or generally just one that is due to arrive on a weekend. The reception staff are also really lovely, and I've had some really nice chats with them. The reception area also has some other nice study spots, and some other social areas such as the sofas, which are occupied fairly often, giving it a more student-y feel and making it seem more alive.

There are also many laundry options available in East Park in a few blocks, and each of them has a reservation system, so you don't take your things down to an occupied machine.

The ensuite rooms are a bit bigger than what Moberly would offer, but the standard ones are roughly the same.

Moberly is quite modernised, too, and is a great option if you want to go a little cheaper. There is a study room, a lounge as well as multi-purpose spaces, which are bookable for societies and clubs - so there's also a lot in terms of social venues. However, whilst letters are delivered to the social space on the ground floor of Moberly, parcels do go to Ross House, which is in Birks Grange Village. This is only a relatively short walk away though. And, laundry facilities are available in Moberly itself.

I would definitely recommend coming to Exeter if you can, just to take a look around!

Both opened around the same time so are very similar build and layout. Not too much to add to the above other than the flat setup in Moberly is like a house - you come in the flat front door straight into the kitchen (almost all other accom is into the corridor).

Most people I know had no issue sharing a bathroom with one other person and it helps a lot out with price, equally though you don't know who you'll get when you move in (but that's always a gamble).

Worth noting east park is quite a bit more £ than Moberly so that is something to factor, overall I'd say Moberly probably has a higher chance of being with flatmates you like (bigger flats, a bit further out so potentially more likely to get to know other flats), equally at East park if you don't get on with your flat there's the chance to quite easily go to other accommodations / societies etc as you're directly on-campus

If going for Moberly I would check the buses, I think they are quite regular but if you're going into the city centre you might want to consider this
