ScotGem 2025

I am debating applying to apply for ScotGem this year to start in 2026, either that or do my PhD. I currently live in Glasgow, home owner, almost finished my Masters at UoG, weighing up my options.

My question is what are the timetables like for ScotGem on a weekly basis?

I know its a busy course year round but I'm more meaning are there classes every day Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm?

I ask because my Masters program online has live lectures for 6 hours over two days and the rest of the course is online and independent learning. I have no questions about holidays and expect to have a shortened summer (which is fine) I'm just wondering if it's feasible for me for travelling or if I have to get a room on SpareRoom as I bought my house last year.

Hiya, sorry for the late reply. Unsure if you are still looking for advice but just in case, im just about to go into year 2 of Scotgem. Year 1 timetables varied slightly week to week, but here's a general sense:

Mondays: 9am to 5pm (Anatomy in the am, lectures in the pm)
Tuesdays: 9am to 12pm with occasional agents of change lectures in the pm
Wednesdays: Off
Thursday: 9am to 5pm (Placement at GP practice)
Friday: 9am to 2pm (Plenary in am, and lectures in pm).

I'm also from Glasgow, and I rent a place near St. Andrews for uni. Year 1 was intense, and so I was grateful for any free time I had to study as much as I could for exams. I would have really struggled to keep up if I had the burden of travelling everyday. I guess in theory it's not impossible, but for the sake of your sanity and mental health - I really wouldn't recommend commuting everyday.

I hope this helps, good luck with whatever you decide:smile:

Have any of your coursemates commuted from Dundee?? Think this might be a significant saving!
