It might feel like graduation is ages away. However, it never hurts to be prepared and tackles tasks slowly.
Whilst graduation is something that can be super fun and exciting to prep for, there are a couple of important things that should definitely be on your priorities list to sort first. This year graduation dates were provided in April (for Kingston), this may differ from year to year, but whenever dates are released, the first thing you should always do is provide that information to those you want at your graduation. If you’re an international student, you may have people travelling and if you're a home student your invitees will most likely have to get time off work as graduations are weekday based! Following this, it’s definitely worth considering how many tickets you’re wanting, your cap and gown rental, what photo package you’re after and although small, where you might park if you’re travelling by car. These can be done with a little bit more time lenience, but they are super important. Bonus tip - if you complete the National Student Survey, you’re automatically entered into a draw to win a free graduation package including free cap and gown rental and photos!
After the important things are out of the way, grad prep definitely gets more exciting. Something that I know i'm looking forward to is picking my graduation outfit. No matter what you’re wearing, make sure it’s something you feel good but also comfortable in as graduation can be a bit of a longer day and you don't want to only remember being uncomfortable! Around the time of the final student finance loan drop is also a great time to look as loads of places put on sales meaning you could get your dream outfit for a little bit cheaper!
The final two things I would suggest considering would be dinner and causal photo locations. As it is a celebration, you might fancy going somewhere nicer for dinner. Whether its in Kingston or somewhere else, consider where you’d might like to go so if you need to you can book and make sure its the perfect way to round of your day. In terms of casual photos, definitely start to consider who you want with you in your graduation photos (especially if they’re graduating on a different day to you!) and where you might want photos. They’re are some photo ops supplied by uni across the day with backdrops etc but if there’s a place thats special to you or you want the scenes of the river definitely plan that into your day!
What are you most looking forward to with graduation?
