Why the hell was that medicine 12 marker so easy but hard at the same time!?? "Explain why Pasteur's Germ Theory (1861) led to changes in medicine."

"Medicine was mostly based on Four Humours in 1250 - 1700". How far do you agree?

You had 2 "describe one feature" question instead of 1 "describe two features" questions?

Yep that's a change for this year onwards - and a good one I think. There are some other minor changes that came in this year too.

There are more choices between questions on paper 2, rather than being made to pick only 1 of the longer questions there are two.
There's also 2x Explain 1 consequence, rather than explain 2 consequences.

1b) Describe one feature about blood transfusions use on the western front

2a) Source usefulness - Sources - diary from a chaplain and a letter
What was the enquiry about?

2b) Source Follow Up (4)

Section B: Medicine through time
Q3: Explain one way the outbreak of the great plague and the outbreak of Cholera were similar.

Q4 "Explain why Pasteur's Germ Theory (1861) led to changes in medicine."

Q5: "Medicine was mostly based on Four Humours in 1250 - 1700". How far do you agree?
Q6: 16 marker on government role in hospitals 1800-present - excellent

can I ask what it means by fighting (on describe feature)? cus I just yapped about battle of the somme- I didn't really get what it meant and people Ik have been saying it's about injuries

From what my students told me it was describe one feature of injuries caused by the fighting (gas, shell shock, gunshot wounds).
Essentially you couldn't use trench foot (caused by the environment) or trench fever (caused by lice) but most other injuries were fair game.

I’ve got a few questions; someone helppp!!
1) for the features question, i wrote just about shrapnel from flying artillery and explained it. is that fine? (i did do the transfusion question though)

2) for the source question, i wrote that both sources were from the time and thus unlikely to be distorted by memory (the second source was from 1917 - a year after the battle if the somme, is that still fine? 🥀)

3) again for the source question about source b i only focused on the short sentence at the top, stating the medical treatment the nurse did, not referring to the cold at all. is that still fine? - i did link it back to the enquiry and why jt might be useful.

4) lastly for the explain one difference question, i ran out of time so i wrote wrote how it was the “air” - i didn’t specify miasma or even ‘bad air’ i was short on time and had to close my booklet. would i at least get a mark?

5) is a grade 9 still possible for me to get? i am predicted one but the paper really took many marks off i believe maybe around 10 if im being harsh. the grade boundaries for edexcel history are really harsh as well (i do med, cold war, richard + john and mao) i think they’re around 144/168. cold war is quite a weak topic for me as well.

thanks for readingg!! please help x

Anyone know what the 12 marker on warfare was? Interested in the wording of the question.

1) Yes
2) Yes, not wrong
3) If the enquiry doesnt reference the cold, then you're fine
4) Depending on what you wrote and how you explained it, you'd be looking at 1-3 marks. If you used the word "cause" that will help.
5) This isn't even worth thinking about
