Accommodation contract length?

Help, my daughter is going to uni in Sunderland this September. We have applied for her accommodation but not sure which length of contract to go for 40 wks or 50 wks. Tried asking but not getting much success but then it is the Easter Bank Holiday. They have offer her 40wks in an ensuite room but how do you know how many weeks you need?
Thanks

It will depend on how long she needs to be on campus for teaching. What course will she be studying?

Hi there,

Thank you for your question, here is some information about the differences regarding our 40 and 50 week contracts:

The primary difference between 40-week and 50-week accommodation contracts at the University of Sunderland lies in the duration of coverage. A 40-week contract covers the standard academic year, including term times and some holiday periods, while a 50-week contract extends this coverage into a longer period, potentially including more of the summer months or even a full year

40-Week Contracts:

Standard Academic Year Coverage:

50-Week Contracts:

Extended Coverage:

Convenience:

There really is no "correct number of weeks" to choose, it is all down to preference, I currently live in private accommodation that is not owned by the university itself, and I personally opted for a 51 week tenancy as it means I can avoid the hassle of moving out and back in between academic years, I also work at the university alongside my studies, therefore making sense in my circumstance to have the longer tenancy.

In brief, it all comes down to whether your daughter is wanting to stay in accommodation for 50 weeks (basically the entire academic year), or if she would prefer a 40 week tenancy in which once it has ended would be required to move out back home or look for alternative accommodation.

You can also contact our accommodation team on 0191 515 2943 or [email protected] and they should be able to tell you the timeframe differences between the 40 and 50 week tenancies to allow you to better decide on the best option.

I hope this helped in someway.

Many Thanks,

Physiotherapy, I think it's sorted now. The accommodation staff have said she can book a summer extension if required
