Mechatronics at Loughborough or Sheffield

Hi, I've gotten offers from both Uni of Loughborough and Uni of Sheffield for Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering, but I don't know which one to pick.
I LOVED the course at Loughborough but I'm not sure I couold imagine myself living there as its a campus uni and hard to get back to home from. I haven't been to the actual Lougborough town either but they mentioned at some points you many not even leave campus for a month bc youre that busy and idk if i like the idea of being stuck on campus with just students 24/7
Sheffield as a city is really nice, it was so green with so many shops and I could imagine myself living there, given its easy to get home and theres loads of activities there nearby which i like eg ice skating. The course wasn't bad but it didn't give me the same 'pizzazz' (pardon my language) as the loughboro course did. This may also be because i only visited sheffield on offer holder day whereas i went to the open day and interview day for loughboro

Any comments on the course and the city for students would be helpful!! I ust want to make sure I dont regret not going to one instead of the other

Hey, 👋

It's great to hear you have received offers to study from both Loughborough and Sheffield. Both great universities! 👏

For my undergraduate degree, I was also tied between Loughborough and Sheffield so I definitely understand the feeling. I ended up choosing Sheffield and have since completed my BA, my MA, and started my PhD all at Sheffield! 😄

The city is great and, as you say, it's so green! We are also perfectly placed right next door to the peak district and there are buses and trains you can get into the peaks for a day of exploring. I personally love the Ladybower Reservoir and Bamford Edge! 🌲

My partner did his (chemical) engineering degree here and loved it! The facilities and industry connection within the engineering department are amazing. Also, 90% of graduates from the mechatronics course are in work or further education 15 months after finishing. Sheffield-trained engineers are now working for companies including Rolls-Royce, Siemens and Airbus! 🤩

This course also has industry-standard facilities including 3D CAD tools, 3D printers and advanced manufacturing technologies, as well as modules designed by our industry partners.

If you have anymore questions about living or studying in Sheffield, please let me know and I would be more than happy to help! 😃

All best wishes,
Phoebe
