Hi 8star,

Firstly, wow well done for getting offers from two super universities and great courses, that's brilliant! Now comes the hard part deciding which to choose!
Have you visited for an open/applicant day yet? If not, I think this is probably the first thing I would do before making the decision. At an open day, you have the opportunity to have a good look around the campus on a student led guided tour. You would be able to ask current students everything you might want to know about university life generally as well as course specific questions and gain answers from a student perspective. You can also look around the department and meet your prospective tutors, again having the chance to find out more about the course content, assessment, course delivery etc and ask about everything and anything else you want to know about. Many universities offer the chance to sit in on a sample lecture so that you can get a sense of what it is like for when you enrol in September. As well as meeting the department staff and students, at an open day you can talk to the support staff, outside of the department including the accommodation teams, finance, academic skills, library staff, student support etc. The days are really informative and give you a great sense of how you feel you fit in at the university - is it somewhere you think you would be happy spending the next 3 or so years studying?
I would also look at the course content for each course - do you prefer one over the other?
The two universities are at (almost) opposite ends of the country. Does this affect your decision? Do you have a preference of being closer to home? If so, which one is most applicable?
What about any financial implications of studying at York compared to London? Do you need to take this into consideration?
Ultimately it is a very personal decision, but there are a number of things to bear in mind when you are making it.
Good luck and enjoy the next stage of your academic journey!

Hi 8star,

Congratulations on both of these offers, which is a fantastic achievement! It's a huge decision and one that ultimately comes down to your own preferences of the course and university.

If you're looking to find out more about the experiences of the students actually studying the course you're interested in, you should take a look at our English and Related Literature student blogs. Our students have written about their experience of the course and specific modules, as well as literature-related societies and Careers and Placement opportunities.

I hope this might be helpful with your decision-making. Best of luck, and if you have any questions about studying English at York, you can always email us at [email protected].
