Have ok grades but i feel like im not grasping the basics

Hi,

I'm doing AS level physics maths and geography and in the mocks i got an A in physics (but only just) a C in maths (but 1 mark of a B) and a C in geography, which don't get me wrong I'm happy with and as I'm aiming for ABB for possible Uni applications so I don't have too far to go.

However it feels like I'm just gliding through, i know i need to do more revision (although I'm lazy) but despite my ok grades, I feel like I don't understand many things, especially in physics for example, as embarrassing as it is i still can't remember which way around longitudinal and transverse waves are, and then there's topics like waves that I just feel as though I don't understand properly, has anyone else felt like this, if so how did you fix it?

Also, I'm looking for a good revision website, similar to educake (unfortunately, educake is only for GCSE). If anyone has any suggestions for that as well it would be helpful

any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!

if you dont have uplearn (which i highly recommend) ask your teacher to sign the school up so you can get it for free (its quite expensive otherwise)
seneca is always a good tool Seneca - Learn 2x Faster make an account so your progress saves
cognito Cognito - Learn GCSE Maths, Biology, Physics and Chemistry - Completely Free there is a level content on it despite it saying gcse, but its limited
gizmo Flashcard Maker | Gizmo you can make your own flashcards, or if you make an account, you can search through the "public decks" to find one that you want to study
past papers are good to go through, even if its boring (which i find they are most of the time) but it drills the exam structure into you so you know where the marks are.
PMT Physics & Maths Tutor the goat
these are the ones that i can remember off the top of my head but will update if i think of any more

For physics, umutech is really good and has lots of past paper questions
For geography Seneca is pretty alright to get the basics and also physics and maths tutor for exam papers
For maths tlmaths on YouTube is really good for explanations and then like physics and maths tutor for exam questions and paper
I do the exact same combo and I’m also struggling😭

It might be worth going over GCSE content. It feels silly, but honestly, doing it for all the topics at GCSE level first really helped me with A level physics. Knowledge of all the GCSE content is assumed, so having those solid foundations is useful.

Hey @DanC2007,

I definitely agree with nwar; if you're struggling to recall some GCSE Physics content, it would be worthwhile going over it briefly (e.g. watch relevant topic videos on YT/improve active recall of GCSE content with flashcards).

I think it's quite normal to feel like you're gliding through your AS-Level year; it's not viewed to be as important as your final A-Level year, and the shift to a more independent learning approach compared to GCSEs can result in some students missing out on content and ultimately never following it up.

I would try and get into the habit of revising daily/once every two days. Even if it's only for thirty minutes or so at first, creating that habit will help you out in the long run, and you can slowly build on the amount of revision you're doing over the next year. 🙂

Hope this was helpful and best of luck with your AS-Levels!
Eve (Kingston Rep).
