Nottingham Vet Course

Hi, are there any Nottingam vet students that don't live in SB campus and take the bus to SB campus for lectures etc? I am kind of confused with the whole accomodation thing, if we get to have a pick to live in the city campuses or we can only choose SB campus as I'd like to live in the city? Thank you

That is definitely possible since the bus journey is only 20 min and the bus is provided for by the university. I have a friend at Notts there at the moment and she says most first years live on SB, make friends and then by second year they all move to city. Hope this helps! If you have any questions I can forward it to here since shes not on TSR

That is really interesting that most students choose to live in the city after the first year. My daughter would rather live close to the main campus but we heard that most students choose to live near SB in Kegworth after the first year. Do you know if your friend knows how the city students find commuting to SB and whether the city is a nice place to live. I heard that it is best to have a car if living in the city.

I've just asked my friend, this is what she replied with:

I think some students do find SB to be a bit isolated since people do come from cities so have never had experience living in the 'countryside'. They experiment with living there in first year, then move to the centre once second year arrives since friend groups have formed by then. But the campus isn't really the countryside as the town nearest is only 10 minutes away.
Another reason this happens is because you're not guaranteed accommodation (at least for Sept cohorts, less true for April since it will be mostly vet students) for the rest of the years at Notts, it is only first year you're guaranteed accommodation.
Commuting to the city definitely means you need to be more organised than if you were in SB (not saying you shouldn't be organised in SB!) since buses only come and go at specific times and you'd need to get there before the lecture starts. The city centre is lovely and has everything you would need, you can imagine it has lots more to do in terms of social events and also the opportunity to connect with the students in the main campus.
Having a car will be useful both if you are living in the city and if you are living in SB and more true for later years when clinical rotations start!

Like your daughter I think I would prefer to live close on main campus as well since I think it will be less distracting especially when going through such a demanding course. I doubt you'd have too much time to be going out but it wouldn't take long to go to the city from SB anyways  Hope this helps!

Thank you for finding out more. It does sound like a lovely city and the SB campus seems a bit too isloated for my daughter but she will have to weigh up convenience versus more activities!
