Psychology Timetable

Heyyy, I’m off to study psychology in Aberystwyth University in September and I was wondering when you current Psychology students have lectures . What would a typical week look like in terms of when you have lectures?
Thank you

Hey there 😃

Many congratulations! 🥳

The number of contact hours can certainly vary depending on university, and even the year of study 📚 But to give you a general idea for me, it's typically been 10–15 hours of contact teaching per week, usually spread across 3–4 days. The rest of the time is meant for independent study, which is a pretty big part of uni life! That includes reading, preparing for lectures, doing assignments, or just revising. You’ll also likely have some free periods, and my top tip is to use those pockets of time wisely maybe get a study session in at the library or take a well-deserved break to make friends on campus ☕📖

If you're looking for more Aberystwyth-specific insight, I’d definitely recommend checking their website for sample timetables, reaching out to their student services or admissions team, or even better, try finding a student ambassador platform or social media page where you can chat with current students and ask about their day-to-day schedule. They’ll give you the real, lived experience 🤗

I hope it will be helpful 💪 Feel free to reach out if you have any questions 😉 You can also chat with me or other students directly through The Ambassador Platform.

Take care,

Julia

Hi there,

Congrats on your offer to study Psychology at Aberystwyth University! You’ve made a great choice, and I’m sure you’ll love it here.

In terms of what a typical week looks like, most Psychology students can expect around 12 hours of contact time per week. This usually includes lectures, seminars, and practical sessions, depending on your modules. Lectures are spread throughout the week - so you might have two or three on one day, and then another day with only a seminar or workshop, and maybe even a free day depending on your timetable that semester.

Seminars and practicals are usually in smaller groups (often around 15–20 people), which gives you the chance to ask questions, discuss ideas, and build your confidence in applying what you’ve learned in lectures.

On top of that, you’ll have access to support from your Personal Tutor, who’ll be someone from the Psychology department that you can go to for guidance throughout your time at Aber. Plus, outside of academic life, there’s loads going on-whether you want to join the Psychology Society, try out new activities with one of the 90+ clubs and societies, or just enjoy the amazing seafront and sunsets.

If you’ve got more questions about the course, moving to Aber, or student life in general, feel free to ask - I’d be happy to help!

All the best,
Mostafa
