What kind of assignments and research writing are done in first-year Medical Science?

I’m preparing for my first year in a Medical Science undergraduate degree in the UK, and I’d love to get an idea of what kind of coursework, assignments, or research-based writing I can expect during Year 1.
Are the assignments more like essays, lab reports, case studies, or research reviews?
Do we follow a specific academic writing format or structure?
How important is referencing, critical analysis, and use of research papers?
Any examples or tips you found helpful for tackling first-year assignments?
