Living solo at 16

Hey yall, im 15 turning 16 in a month and i want to leave my dads house, i hate it, he is so draining and restrictive in everything i do and im sick of it, ive heard that a person who is 16 can live by themselves and i really want to do that as ive always been a solitary person and i just want to have my own space and leave my dad. I would stay with my mum but she is busy with her own life and she only has 1 bedroom flat, if i am able to get my own space i would like a 1 bedroom flat just to keep it as cheap as possible and small.

I am trying to get a job and save up as much as possible but it is nothing compared to what i need to have to afford my own space, my dad doesn't let me go on the internet, websites nor social media so it's hard to get a job and I haven't completed my GCSE's yet so no qualifications!

I think all i need to have my own flat is a parents permission and obviously i need the money to afford the flat, i havent done extensive research as im restricted

Please help, any opinions/ideas are appreciated

Hi, I’m sorry to hear about your situation, no internet is mad! But, I’d recommend doing your GCSEs first so that you have qualifications and you have way more free time at college to balance having a job. Could you maybe go to a friend’s house to use their internet or use school’s? Also, a lot of my friend who are 16/17 work as waiters, so you could try contacting restaurants for some jobs.

Tbh almost no one will rent to a single person under 18 for legal and maturity reasons and you'd have trouble with utilities contracts as well and likely other things. You would likely need to be earning maybe 1-1.5k+ a month to rent a place alone depending where it is, and even then you would possibly still need your parents or someone else to act as guarantor/put their money on the line. 😐️

When many young people move out they will share flats with friends or others for a while as it's far more manageable. Having an entire flat just to yourself is a pretty big luxury, esp compared to 90% of the students on here.

Well I completely understand the type of stuff you're going through, From ages 2-15 I was Abuse: Physically, Emotionally, verbally, and mentally. I got out of my parents house at the age of 15, and got put into States care, and transported to mental facilities, and placements. I've recently got outta of a mental hospital (Lakeland) December 17, 2024...and been stuck in a Christian Foster home inside of a Christian town...And lately I took have been trying to figure out ways to leave. the reason I wanna leave however, Is bc of my religion and how messed up the society is here

Yea i am allowed like internet, social media at ny mums but i can use at schools but im not like wanting to do that as they can see the history and they could potentially tell my dad and stuff, i think i could get ny mum to be like the parental guardian if anything happens to the flat if i somehow get one but i am profoundly responsible and a quiet person so yea but i just need money fml

it would mean staying on the sofa/a camp bed or something, but could you not stay at your mums?
You would need to stay in some form of education until you are 18- how about doing an apprenticeship? That way you would be earning a wage.

Hey yall sorry for the late replies, so, i have found potential jobs as i have said before but i have also found a potential job at matalan which pays 10.00 an hour for 16 year olds which is a bit low especially for the limited amount of hours that im legally allowed to do, but also futher good news, my nan said that she would be like my trustee/ guardian for me by signing all my rent and leases excetera, the only minor problem is that i really want to get a job now sl i can get as much money as i can but my GCSE's are comming up and i havent got my national insurance card
