UAL Foundation recommendation

Hello, I've got total four offers, one from Kingston and two from LCF foundations and one from UAL foundation... and have no idea where to go. I wanted to study fashion but kind of changed to experience other art field, so I applied diagnostic mode for UAL foundation. Can anyone who has completed these courses give me some advice?

Hi @Alstj14

I did not study the foundation course here at Kingston but I did study it at my local college and I am now here at Kingston studying Fashion Promotion and Communication. So hopefully I can give you some insight as to what the university and the courses are like and answer any of your questions

Firstly I think it is fab that you are doing a foundation year as it is a great way to figure out what you like, experiment and become clearer on what course you would like to study at university. Plus it is a good chance to build a portfolio.

You will be based at Penrhyn Road, which is like the main campus here at Kingston. It is just a 10 minute walk from the centre of Kingston, where there are lots of shops and places to eat. It is nice to go to a café and study or eat by the river. Lots of things are based at Penrhyn such as the student union, careers centre and the university gym. There is also a library, cafes and canteens.

Penrhyn is also less than a 10 minute walk to Knights Park campus where you can access all the workshops. There are great facilities and a real range from printmaking, wood work, ceramics as well as photography and film studios and post production suites.

I will leave a link to a few posts that might help you get a better idea of what Kingston is like and key factors to consider when making a choice:
My Deciding Factors For Choosing Kingston University - The Student Room
Social Life and Night Life at Kingston - The Student Room
Tips on Making a University Choice - The Student Room

I would also highly recommend going to open days for the universities you are interested in, this is what personally helped me make a decision. There is more information on the website Open Days and events | Kingston University London. We have a open day coming up this Saturday!

Let me know if there is anything in particular that would like more information on, I am happy to answer your questions

I hope this helps and good luck making your decision!

Hi @Alstj14

Congratulations on your offers!

I think a foundation year is a great idea when you are unsure what you want to do. Although I didn't do one at Kingston I did do one at my local college and now I am here studying fashion promotion and communication at Kingston, so I can hopefully help with any questions you may have.

If you are studying an art and design foundation at Kingston you be based at Penrhyn Road, which is like the main campus here at Kingston. It is just a 10 minute walk from the centre of Kingston, where there are lots of shops and places to eat. It is nice to go to a café and study or eat by the river. It is also a less than 10 minute walk to Knights Park campus where you can access all the workshops. There are great facilities and a real range from printmaking, wood work, ceramics as well as photography and film studios and post production suites.

I would really recommend going to open days if you can as this really helped me make a decision. It is a great chance to get a feel for the university as to what it might be like to live and study there, see the facilities and speak to current students and lectures. There is an open day this Saturday, as well as more throughout the year that you can find on the website. Open Days and events | Kingston University London
