Exeter or Bath for econ and politics

HELP!!
I'm having the hardest time deciding between the two. While reputably Bath is excellent, especially for econ, I prefer the way the course is structured/optional modules at Exeter.

Both have lovely towns and a range of societies, but I prefer the campus at Exeter. In terms of accommodation, I like both, but at Bath there's the possibility of being put off campus in the city, so maybe I should consider Exeter??

Bath is in a better location, in terms of being close to Bristol for a night out, while Exeter is a littleeeee bit more isolated.

BTW a friend is going to Bath and while I know i'll make friends anywhere even without him, we've already been talking about moving in/doing stuff together at Bath.

Any advice, especially on the course/life there, would ve greatly appreciated!!

Hi Sophia,

Thanks for getting in touch and sorry for coming to this a little late!

At the end of the day you should choose whichever uni has the course, campus vibe and town which feel right for you. Whilst there is of course the possibility of living off-campus in the city at Bath, this is really not a problem. Its an easy 15 minute bus ride up to the uni and the bus stops for the U1 and U2 are quite abundant around the city. The only thing is it means you'd have to invest in a bus pass. A lot of students actually prefer living in the city though because its closer to the shopping/nightlife/pubs etc.

I am of course biased towards Bath as I really loved my time here as a student and thought the links to industry were and the placement scheme were fantastic, but if you say you prefer the course and campus at Exeter then it sounds like Exeter might be a better fit for your interests and your happiness. What do your loved ones think? Can they share any insights about which might be better for you? What about a Bath VS Exeter pros and cons list - does one emerge as a clear winner?

I hope this helps, wishing you the best of luck whichever you pick! 🙂

Hi Sophie,

Just to reiterate what Holly has posted from Bath, I'd echo exactly that same advice as a University of Exeter student too. Bath and Exeter are both great institutions, with excellent courses, and you can't really go wrong with whichever you choose. Ultimately the decision of which is right will be down to you, and what's the best fit for you both academically and personally too. Exeter isn't too far from Bath or Bristol, so if you did go to Exeter I'm sure you could still meet with your friend in Bath and go to visit for weekends.

If it's helpful you can chat to current University of Exeter student's here, and can search by subject to find Thando and Jay who are both current economics students. Getting their perspective on the course and student life in Exeter might give you the final bit of confidence you need to make your decision.

I hope that's helpful, but please don't hesitate to get in touch if you've got any questions.

Hi! Sorry I just saw this but I wanted to say thanks for your advice. I actually ended up choosing Bath, with Exeter as my insurance, since upon further research and email the departments I realised I could so very similar modules at both unis, and the Bath placement is great! I'm glad that you enjoyed it! xx
HI Sophia,

Great news! I'm happy to hear that you have made Bath your firm choice 🦆

Exeter and Bath are both excellent choices!

All the best for your exams 🙂
