a level geography terminology in exam

are we still allowed to use 'LIC, HIC, NEE' to denote countries? i looked on mark schemes (edexcel) and they use something called VHHD which im not sure what it is, if it's preferred or if you will get marked down for still using the abbreviations from gcse?

I am pretty sure you can use HIC LIC and NEE, my geography teacher (for human) sometimes uses it, but i'd probably keep using developed/developing and emerging

but i guess you can use it?

In longer answers especially, it's probably best to write it out fully and abbreviate in brackets, then throughout the rest of your essay use the abbreviated term

would you do that with long acronyms? writing out OPEC (Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) in like a 6 marker would feel like a waste of time but tbf my hand gets cramped so easily

I would. I do the same thing with writing stuff like ASEAN ( Association of South East Asian Nations)
I cant be bothered to spend 30 seconds to write the whole thing🤭
