hi! creative writing lover here (i take eng lang a level so do this regularly). if you want to see some of my pieces that got 9s/A*s i'd be happy to share

tips:

have a pre-designed character if you want to do the story (however, I would always suggest the description)

have a predesigned weather paragraph. pathetic fallacy is always amazing (weather reflecting the mood)

having a rough layout of your description (avoid dialogue in a descriptive piece)

i.e

1) weather
2) transition into environment: what can we see, what does the air smell/taste of
3) sensations. what is the context, what can we touch
4) there is a change. is it the weather? does it start raining? how does this change the emotions of the place
5) what can we hear? how does it make us feel? are we in danger?

i would always treat a description as a snapshot. you cannot move you cannot talk; you just state what is in front of you,.

stories I believe are harder to score higher marks on; but lmk if you want some more advanced tips on either - or how to do an extended metaphors. I've tried to keep it basic above

best of luck!!
